Brooks Laich would be a guess for me.
Shawn Horcoff if Dallas has other ways to spend the money.
A good move, but a scary one to sign the cheque for: Mike Richards. You think he looks slow now.... wait 5 or 6 years.
If Chicago hadn't used their two already, one that would take a lot of guts would be Hossa. He cap recapture penalty was suppose to be really bad if he does as expected and retire rather then play for $1,000,000.

Isn't Laich injured? You can't buy-out injured players. (That's how Heatley and Havlat avoided buy outs last year).

I don't know who Florida would bother with, they've only got three main roster contracts that go past next year: Boyes (2.625 cap hit, 2.5 paycheck), Barkov, and Campbell (7.142,875 cap hit and paycheck, but only until year after next). Well, and Luongo, but they're not buying him out. If that Campbell contract was a few years longer, sure, but as it stands, they will be rid of Jovo's 4.125 after next year, and he's liable to be sitting on the IR or retired anyway. But considering the fact that they are at the moment 30th in salary with the cap (and floor) rising, and Campbell, even if his points dipped along with team scoring this year, still played big, solid minutes all year, I don't see him getting bought out. And if they were to buy out Boyes, well, they'd just have to go and sign another Boyes to replace him, young team or not they're not going to ice an entire squad of under-23s.

We'll have to wait until it actually happens, but it seems the Franzen buyout rumors were a big hasty. Looks like it's gonna be Tootoo.

    Yeah.
But damn, I'd rather hve one year of Tootoo at $1.9 mil vs whatever it is Franzen is getting over the next 4-5 years.

6 more years at just under $4 M. I dunno, that's pretty ugly...but not the worst one out there, obviously.

Any guess where Richards ends up if he's bought out? Gotta wonder if some of the Kesler/Spezz/Thornton discussions are keeping him in mind. He'd be a lot cheaper to add.

There's been speculation in Winnipeg that the Jets could go after him if he were bought out. I've only very briefly skimmed these articles:

    Eric Duhatschek:

Hard to tell because a lot of teams would be interested in Richards considering his new contract would be less expensive and shorter.

People thought the same about Vinny and his new contract. Don't count on Richards being THAT much cheaper.

Maybe not, but Lecavalier did sign a more attractive contract (from the team's perspective) than the one he had before that.
