I think it was a nice gesture on their part but the Jays should have made a move on a starter before there was next to nothing left. There were better starters out there that they should have offered their salaries for earlier in the off season. Honestly, Rogers doesn't need the players to offer deferals on their salaries. They just needed to be more aggressive in trying to fix an obvious deficiency in their roster.

Their core's contract status + AA's job security = screw Jeff Smardzjia....go for Price. Do Stroman and Sanchez for all I care. They have very little when it comes to hitting prospects so even if either of those two turn into studs down the road, who the hell is gonna score runs?!?

The Jays definitely need starting pitching help right now, but that's no secret and hasn't been since the spring.
They have a better chance of getting Smardzjia.

Don't trade for Jeff Samardzija unless it costs very little. What AA really missed out on was getting Doug Fister super cheap from the Tigers in the off-season. I'd rather the Jays get Jason Hammel and/or another bat to keep Juan Francisco on the bench (Daniel Murphy or Aaron Hill and move Lawrie back to 3B).
