Corey Perry gets 40 goals

As mentioned in today's ramblings, Perry got 40 goals for only the 2nd time in his career. Do you guys think he can consistently reach 40 goals again or is 30-35 more what we should expect.

Sure. Why not? He hit 50 not long ago. He may not hit 40 next year, but that line is locked up for several years now. He has such great chemistry with Getzy. Let's see who lands on the top line LW...that may play a factor as well. But if he can do it with a revolving door at LW and Getzy...I think his situation can only get better next year.

You answered your own question here. He doesn't do it every year. He will occasionally though. It's not an easy feat getting to 40.

Honestly I used to hate Perry. No real reason, just didn't like him. Acquired him in a steal of a deal this offseason, and I have been watching him more this season (always liked watching Anaheim for some reason, but pay more attention now). Perry has a great shot. Like. A way better shot than I thought he did. He isn't an elite skater (nor is Getzy) but those two can just dominate in the offensive zone. They are both fantastic at protecting the puck.

I see a couple more 35+ goal seasons for Perry. The ducks shall be good for a while, they are a top team now and are rich with prospects in their system, and Perry and Getz will be leading the way.

Agreed! I can see him get an average of 35 goals per year over the next 5 seasons (some closer to 50, some closer to 30, but mostly in the 32-40 range).

if the LW situation stays the same with the revolving door, i see Perry hitting the high 30's more often, and going into the 40s once or twice. but if they secure a solid LW, i can see Perrys points go up, but goals go down between 8-10 a yr. making him a 30 goal scorer.

Agree 100%. In fact, if I am not mistaken, during the Olympics, it was Bob McKenzie or one of the other hockey columnists that mentioned that Perry is arguably, the best with holding (protecting) the puck behind the goalie nets. He and Getz are simply dynamite at cycling the puck down low.

Depending on your scoring cats (which will dictate the most) but yes...based on my cats (Points, PPP, +/- and PIM)...I totally treat Perry as a top 10 option. Add in hits (which I don't have) and I think he's even better.

Recommendations for predicting goals for players in the league for a while:

1. Determine the average number of shots a player takes per year. (Perry, full year ~ 280 SOG)
2. Find the player's average shooting percentage. (Perry, avg 13% shooter)
3. Do math. (Projected goals = SOG x SH% = 280 x .13 = 36.4 goals)
