Default "Best Shape of his Life"

Though some of it is tongue-in-cheek, the notion that a guy is in "the best shape of his life" is bandied about around here in September. I'm wondering if there is absolutely any correlation between being in the "best shape" and an 7 increase in production.

One player that would be an affirmative would be Zach Kassian, who has done much better this year than last.

Prior to the season, I think I remember Angus telling us that Brad Richards was going to be in the best shape of his life.
    Boy... I bought that one.

I know Dobber & Angus disagreed on this year's production of B-Rich.

"Best shape of his life" can mean anything from the truth to a coach/player just saying a bunch of filler for the media. Plus, even if a player is in great shape it doesn't mean that he will produce better numbers if he is not properly focused mentally.

In Kassian's case I'm sure conditioning has something to do with it but how much can be attributed to being more experienced and having learned/matured?

Word is Dany Heatly was in the best shape of his career going into a contract season, luckily someone else grabbed him early.

I'm inclined to think B.Rich actually had a pretty decent season. Pushing 20 goals, 50+ points, but the real kicker here is that he's got 243 SOG in 77 GP. I mean, it's not like anyone drafted Richards in the first several rounds of their drafts; with this kind of production, he's actually a solid late-round pick. Plus, if your league counts FW, then Richards has the hidden value of nearly 500 Faceoff wins with LW eligiblity. Pretty decent, actually.
