Ovechkin goes through March with ZERO even strength points

So Alex Ovechkin just finished the month of March without a single even-strength point.

As reported by Adam Vingan, Alex Ovechkin failed to get a single even-strength point in March. He finished the month in grand style by getting outshot* 15 to 5 against the Nashville Predators. Ovechkin is still the favorite to win the Rocket Richard Trophy for most goals scored during the regular season, but when that happens it won’t be because of what’s happening during even-strength play. Ovi’s struggles with puck possession mirror those of the Capitals overall, but what’s happened in the last two weeks is particularly noteworthy.

Since March 16th, Ovechkin has shared the top line with Jay Beagle. Usually a fourth liner, Beagle’s promotion up the ranks has been surprising, though not totally unexpected. Injuries to Mikhail Grabovski and Brooks Laich depleted Adam Oates’ options at the center position. The big road trip in California gave Oates another reason to boost Beagle: splitting up Backstrom and Ovechkin should have created two scoring lines that would have made match-ups harder for home teams.

It didn’t turn out that way. Possession and production among the top six has been scant, and the Ovechkin-Beagle pairing has been the worst of all.

Wow... just wow.
There's 15 games in that March list.
You've got to figure that if he's playing 20min/night... that at least 15min/night is even-strength.

So... that's roughly 225 even strength minutes (equivalent to almost FOUR full NHL games) where Ovechkin couldn't log a single point.
And -17 to go with that.

(btw. Washington, as a TEAM, is -9 on the year. Ovechkin... -34. Awful considering Joel Ward found a way to be +5 on same team, with same D, same goalies. This is why I love +/- and find it so "telling".)

In one of my leagues, a guy traded Ovechkin in November for Giroux/Ott/Weber.
Talk about a perfect sell high, buy low in a one year league counting FOW.

He's been brutal to watch...

I wish the NHL had something like the NFL Redzone for Power Plays... that's the only time the Caps are fun to watch or even remotely dangerous.

Fricken Hilarious! I just traded him for Carey Price. Solely because I cant stand watching the way he plays. He could be so much more if he played a 200ft game.

I love Ovi, I think each city draft the right player for the right team at the time (Crosby to Pitts, Ovi to Washington). I say right player because Washington needed a flashy, highlight getting player to bring that city into hockey again. Pitts needed someone who was going to take over for Lemiuex, a player who makes everyone around him better. However, Crosby has gotten better and better (hated him when he got into the league), while Ovi has regressed/stayed the same. Ovi use to skate around at least in the D zone, now he just floats. Ovi use to move on the PP and try to hide in his spot, now he just stands in his spot


I feel bad for anyone who drafted Ovi in keeper leagues now
