Barrie, because he is having success right now. He is the PP1 guy presumably the long-term option, and if the stable of forwards in COL continues to develop he could have the sweetest opportunity of any of these guys. I really like Vatanen a whole lot, as well, but I think I'll give Barrie an edge here. I don't really see any of these guys being dominant in the peripheral categories, but all have quality offensive upside. Barrie gets the edge because he's producing right now, and his situation is $$.

Barrie looks like he could be a really good fantasy defensemen. He seems like the best option offensively of the trio because of his ability to provide points. Coming in a close 2nd is Vatanen because it seems that anyone who plays defense in ANA is bound to have a good +/- and assists numbers. Lastly, I have Ceci because I just don't trust what Ottawa is doing right now on defense. Outside of Karlsson, who is mainly an offensive presence, who do they have that really stands out?

The Sens situation is what intrigues me about Ceci. Other than EK the only other guy with some offensive upside is arguably Weiroch. I don't think it's close, Ceci should be seeing all kinds of opportunity next year. Or not. Lads? Vatanen has Fowler and Lindholm to contend with so how that shakes out remains to be seen. Barrie looks like the real deal and EJ and Elliott (remember him?) should not get in his way. That's pretty much how I am looking at this. Other opinions are requested.

I think Ceci will get more opportunities next year, he has been Ottawa's best defenseman behind Karlsson at many points this season. The last three games while Phillips has been out, Ceci and Weircioch were on the PP2 unit, which should be the PP2 unit next year. MacLean has sheltered him a bit this year, but I think he can handle more minutes next year.

Barrie definitely is the better option right now, but I think Ceci is someone to keep an eye on.

    1. Barrie
    2. Vatanen / Ceci

Even with E.Johnson having a slight resurgence, Barrie has still managed to be a very productive fantasy DMan - I think his stock is rising big-time. I think Vatanen has the highest-end offensive chops of the three but he is the riskiest pick. Ceci also has rock solid potential, but I'd take the kid who is proving it now, which is Tyson Barrie.

From what I have seen of Barrie I would take him first

Ceci looks to be in a good situation going into next season but I think Barrie's going to put up more points

Vatanen I am unsold on due to his size. There is no doubt he has the talent but he needs the right partner to get regular ice time. I often think of Reijo Routsalainen paired with Barry Beck when considering Vatanen's upside
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.
