The Indians announced Monday that Bourn will begin on the 15-day disabled list to begin the season — retroactive to March 21 — due to the strained left hamstring that kept him out of action for a little over a week. As a result, the club informed non-roster invitee outfielder Nyjer Morgan that he will have a spot on the team’s 25-man roster and will be with the club on Opening Day, scheduled for March 31.

Bourn is dealing with the same hamstring he had surgically repaired in mid-October of last year after he injured it right before the end of the season. The hamstring flared up once again which will result in him missing some time. Since the move is retroactive to March 21, that means he’ll be eligible to return from the disabled list the first weekend of the regular season. He didn’t play in any action since the 21, so they can place him on the disabled list going back to when he last suited up.

The Indians also announced that third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall will indeed make the club. He had been competing for a spot and more at bats with Carlos Santana, who will be playing third base and backup catcher in 2014.

Aaron Harang will not make the Opening Day roster for the Indians and was granted his release on Monday. The club also assigned Bryan LaHair and David Cooper to Minor League camp. Catcher Luke Carlin will indeed join LaHair and Cooper, but not until the club leaves Arizona on Thursday as they need the extra backstop.
