Scott Baker didn’t exactly have a Spring Training to remember, and it’s apparently led to the 32-year-old right-hander deciding on another change of scenery.

According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, the Mariners granted Baker his release today. It seems that this might be a case of missed opportunity for Baker. He signed on with Seattle to a minor-league deal over the winter and had an inside track on a spot in the starting rotation, until he went out and actually pitched this spring. Baker allowed 12 runs in only 12 innings of Cactus League play, striking out only one batter while allowing 16 hits and posting seven walks.

Roenis Elias and Randy Wolf will most likely make the Opening Day roster now for Seattle with both possibly having secured spots in the starting rotation.

As for Baker, with the rash of pitching injuries this Spring around the Majors, he may not be unemployed for very long. He’ll most likely get another chance somewhere else.
