    Default Ekblad

My team and league scoring are both in my signature,
I own the 1st ( my own ) and the 5th ( via trade ) in the June draft
also already have 2 picks in the June 2015 draft more then likely
top 5's , so my question is ....
Do I draft Ekblad with the first pick, Defensemen are like gold
in our league, HE WILL NOT LAST TO MY PICK AT NUMBER 5
My thinking is I have young talented forwards now, the oldest is
Voracek, at 24 years old, and next years draft I sould be able to get
at least one star or superstar forward,
Thank you all in advance and good luck in your playoffs

My pick for 1st overall is Sam Bennett. Youngest of the big-three with a June '96 birthday, has been a huge riser in his development, and has points/PIM upside whereas Reinhart doesn't get a lot of PIMs. Bennett for your first pick, IMO, and then try to snag Ehlers/Draisaitl with your 5th overall.

Oh. Well, you should definitely wait to see how things shake out. Makes a huge difference where guys go in the draft, and for someone like Ekblad especially IMO. That being said, I still think you should be targeting the guys I mentioned above. I'm not really big on drafting Dmen super early in the entry draft, as it always takes longer to get results in fantasy leagues. I think guys like Bennett/Reinhart/Ehlers/Draisaitl are going to help your team a lot more, a lot earlier.

How would you compare him in fantasy value to Jones at this point?

I would definitely much prefer Seth Jones. Jones could be a Rob Blake type. Ekblad strikes me as a Gudbranson, and the offense worries me a bit. His development has been great in that area this season (20+ goals), but I'm not sure if that's just a product of him being physically dominant in his current league (OHL).

    Jones > Ekblad imo

I wouldn't draft Ekblad 1st overall or any defenseman for that matter.

If possible, why don't you target a young more-proven offensive dman (thinking someone like OEL) and offer up the 5th pick, or even 1st, if defencemen are that valuable?

    It's a scenario worth exploring.

Definitely a draft year to trade down slightly as I am more excited, or equally excited (from a fantasy perspective) about forwards like Dal Colle, Ehlers, Nylander, etc.

This draft year might not have the ELITE top-end talent of previous drafts, and it's definitely not as good as last year (or 2015); however, I think there are plenty of good quality fantasy options available for the future. Like Youngblood said, guys like Dal Colle, Ehlers, Draisaitl, Nylander, Goldobin, etc. will more than likely be very good players down the road.

I agree that you need to see how the real NHL draft plays out.
