    Default Bishop v Smith

Who do you prefer long term?

For Smith - has the Phx crease for eternity. Has a decent track record, but only one superstar season.

For Bishop - will probably be a Vezina candidate unless he really goes into the tank down the stretch. Minimal track record although he had good numbers last season. I also worry about Andrei Vasilevski taking his job.

Vasilevski is about 2-3 years away IMO, but Vailevski looks to be a superstar, and I'm sure both will be number 1's wherever they land. Take Bishop. I think Vas. will be better, but at least he's got more years in Tampa, and then will be a great goalie wherever he goes. One season isn't enough to think he's a star yet, but he's got the skill to be a great goalie.

Bishop. If he proves himself capable and wins the Vezina, there will be no rush to push Vasilevski. Smith has an expensive contract, but I'm not sure he's the best goalie in Phoenix. Interesting to see what they do with Greiss.

It's close but give me Bishop. He's TB's workhorse now and after this season Lightning are only going to get better. He'll be used to starting as many games as well. He should post better GAA and SV% and likely more wins to on at this point

What are your thoughts about Vasileski? How soon will he be in the NHL do you think? All the rumblings I hear are that Tampa absolutely loves this guy and wants to get him over to NA right now, even though Bishop is playing great and getting it done.

He'll be battling Gudlevskis for the starting role in SYR next season. He will need some seasoning but very big upside here. He should be in net tomorrow as his KHL team plays game 7 in the playoffs...if they're eliminated theres a chance he could come play in AHL before end of season.

I think tampa's goaltending pool is going to be as good as Anahiem really soon with both Vasileski and Gudlevskis coming along. I had Smith and Bishop on my team for a time, and I dropped Smith. Smith just hasn't been consistent for me, and I am starting to suspect its out of complacency because the crease is his for the next 5 years. If he didn't have that long term contract I suspect Greiss would be challenging him for the starting job.

    So bishop for me.

Wow, I didn't think it would be so lopsided towards Bishop, which is good to know because I was actually leaning towards Smith for next year.

I have to choose between Smith, Bishop and Landeskog for my final keeper in a keep 6. My top 4 fwds are very strong and the 5th guy is Quick. Got a tough decision to make, but I'm leaning towards Bishop now.

What are your scoring cats? From past experience do other teams often keep 2 goalies in their 6? I would be inclined to keep Landeskog depending on the categories and the skater/goalie scoring split.

It's a new keeper so I don't know what others will do. I would imagine only a few people will keep more than 1 goalie so there will be options in the draft.

Bishop and Smith will probably post similar numbers for as long as they are starters. They are pretty similar. Both teams will give up a lot of shots too going forward. Tampa post St. Louis is not the same team defensively.

I'd probably keep Landeskog with those skater cats. A 9/5 split makes goalies important but I gotta think that you will be able to redraft a second goalie easier than you will a multi-cat player like Landeskog.

Okay, Bishop's play has really slipped. What do people think now? Like I said in my initial post, he has minimal track record as this is just his first season as a starter. He might not be the elite goalie many seemed to have assumed just a few weeks ago.
