    Default 'Spoiler' button?

Is there a way to create a 'spoiler' button, which if clicked shows hidden text?

If there's not, it's a damn good idea.

    Yes there is.

Highlight the blank section below to find out how.

All you have to do is make your text greyish-white in the advanced editor section. Then when you highlight it, it shows up.

    See. That was easy.

Perhaps. But a lot of sites use this as an option.

Besides, how many times does someone need to post a spoiler so a spoiler button is needed? It's not like someone is going to post "Tampa trades St. Louis to New York" and then have a spoiler button for people who don't want to see it.

No, but what it may allow you to do is to have a "wall of info" hidden in one box, so that people would pay attention to the important message.

For example, if I were to ask fantasy advice and say : here is a list of notable players (list inside spoiler), then people could open up that spoiler and close it to not have to scroll back and forth through the list over and over unless they need to. Maybe you had another question after the list, or maybe your league settings (League setting in spoiler). Information that is important to know, but not so important as the actual question itself. Helps make the question look cleaner, while still containing all the information in the post.

Many people could now put some settings into their spoiler instead of their sig (or better yet, make their sig a spoiler containing the info) that could help reduce the amount of space this information - that's important when questions are involved, but not all the time - takes everywhere.

Huh? Are you talking about the text in the spoiler coming up in a popup window? That's certainly very stupid and I've never seen a site use it that way. Most sites use a mouseover effect, like this: http://www.reddit.com/r/nerdfighters.../spoiler_tags/

That should be fairly easy to implement as a plugin on this forum.

Thanks for your comments. No point IMO adding a wall of text and greying it out to 'hide' it. That adds far too much space, especially if you have a lot of text. The information would be condensed by default unless you press the spoiler button, which expands it.

As Dakkster showed, something like that would be useful. I've seen similar setups on other sites and have worked well.

Nights' signature example is a good one - you could make your signature a spoiler which would help clean it up, reduce space and allows you to hide it when it's not relevant to the subject. Other examples like discussing films, books etc, especially as these subjects have been quite popular on this site. Furthemore, related to fantasy hockey, it allows you to hide information you still want to include in the post but may not be essential to everyone.

He's basically asking about a "hide text" feature that would allow for certain elements of the text to be hidden, except at the user's mouse-click. Not a bad idea, IMO.

Strange, I had actually tried this in a post but didn't work. Must have done something wrong, thanks.

just go "spoiler" and "/spoiler" in [] tags. Easy peasy.

    Thanks Dobber.

Yeah I thought I had tried exactly that, but must have done something wrong at the time. It worked now (on another post).

This could be very useful for those with big signatures and multiple leagues. Perhaps this could be advertised?
