Default Finally time to drop Holtby?

I feel the pain of anyone who has held onto Holtby the whole year, thinking that he had finally turned it around. Now tonight, after Halak goes to WSH, getting absolutely lit up.

Is it finally time to drop him?

In a one-year league he might be a lost cause at this point; however, I wouldn't give up on the guy. Before this season, he was a top-3 option in 5v5 Sv% over the previous 3 seasons (albeit in rather limited action, but over 4,000 minutes, a decent benchmark for gauging performance for starting goalies), and had showed a lot of promise in the playoffs under a lot of pressure. He has been made to change some elements of his game this season, and I think the likely reason for his struggles is that adjustment - or lack thereof. If anyone's keeper pool's Holtby owner has soured on him in any way, I recommend trying to buy low on this guy for next season and beyond.

I'm with mounD. Halak is a UFA. One year league drop him, keeper league I would keep him and see what happens.

They've got some incredibly valuable assets there in Washington. A competent management group could've guided that team to a championship already. If they had just kept the firewagon 2006 Caps' hockey with Bruce Boudreau, who knows where these guys would be right now ... I guess it's even more ironic that things are coming full circle with Halak. He's the reason they pulled a 180 in team philosophy, and now he is the signal of the team's incompetence thus far in 13-14. WSH may have won that trade in my estimation, but it says a lot about them as a franchise. Now Halak is going to get a bunch of starts, they'll probably squeak into the playoffs, lose in the 1st round, and the mediocre status quo remains. Hoorah.

I'm fairly certain tonight was a death-blow for Holtby......he is just a shattered human being right now.

People said the exact same thing about MAF during the playoffs last year. He seems to be having a blast, and success, right now. Time, and the playoffs, will tell if that success is real or not, but it just highlights the ebb and flow of confidence in the NHL.

Yes, but it's kinda like apples and oranges. MAF has pedigree, experience, and a track record behind him while Holtby was a relative nobody a couple of years ago when he went on that run, and has a very limited and extremely spotty record. MAF was a #1 pick that has won a cup and had a long term deal, Holtby is a nobody that hasn't done anything. I honestly do not think he is even in the league in 2-3 years.

Why would they toss him back in there? I need the start and saves in my roto league, so I'm not complaining, but I had resigned myself to the fact that I wouldn't see Holtby in the crease again for a loooooong time. Are they protecting Halak and tossing Holtby to the wolves?

If Holtby gets yanked tonight, I honestly think we may see tears.
