Not really. They are paying for the security of having St. Louis locked up for cheaper than they'd have gotten Callahan. If you view Callahan as a rental here it's just picks for St. Louis.

I think the Rangers paid perhaps a bit too much, considering MSL's age; however, it's definitely a fair price to pay and they're a much better team with MSL. Serious statement move by the Rangers, who desperately want to be considered among the Eastern Conference elite.

I still think it's too much. Callahan will be an excellent rental for the playoff push. And they get first opportunity to negotiate a reasonable extension with Callahan, or they can trade him if he won't sign there. The picks alone are arguably too much for St. Louis, at his age. He has maybe two years left, and that 2015 pick "could" end up being McDavid if the Rangers win the lottery, which is entirely possible given the direction that team is going.

Great deal for the Rangers in my opinion.

Who knows how much longer he played but he isn't showing signs of slowing yet. St. Louis is one of the elite forwards in the NHL. Reigning scoring champ. The kind of player who makes others around him better.

I think that's a bit of an over-reaction. St. Louis makes their team better now considering the way Callahan had been playing this season. They are about winning now.

And don't forget that this helps them avoid over-paying Callahan.

Maybe two years left? Why shouldn't we believe that he can be like Jaromir Jagr and produce well into his 40s if he's motivated to play? I see no reason to assume that MSL will only play another couple seasons. He's not on the wrong side of 40 yet ...

When is it ever an over payment when you get the reigning Art Ross winner for a player who waaaaaaaaay over values himself? Callahan is good for maybe 15 goals and 40 points a year.

Not a lot of mention of what this does for Callahan's fantasy value....thoughts? I'm an owner and can't figure out what I think of this deal.

Good deal for the Rangers. TB was in a tough spot IF Marty requested a move and to grab a 2015 1st rounder, which under the new lottery rules has the potential to be McDavid. Callahan a good leader for all the young players in TB.

Well he's been really struggling through injuries this season. Not very productive. Depends on what line he winds up on. I figure second line with Filppula, which isn't great for his value.

I'm in the same boat as you with my one-year league. He was already on the fringe, but I kept him because of the Rangers' handful of odd night games. Not sure what to do with him now.
