Default World Juniors Championship Pool 2013

    Ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome to the IIHF Under 20 2013 pool. This is the sixth year that pool has been run here.

    PAST WINNERS:
First off, credit to the past winners.
2008: miked (out of 8 or 9 entries - it was a last minute thing)
2009: ultrawhiteness (out of 28 entries)
2010: watchingthegame (out of 28 entries)
    2011: metaldude26 (out of 20 entries)
2012: vandalay (out of 29 entries)

I also want to credit dobber user ‘nights’ for helping with the in tournament stat tracking last year. There is no Yahoo or ESPN pool so to update stats requires good old fashion manual entry. Nights has offered again this year so thanks again.

    SCORING:
    Points only for skaters
    Goalies Wins = 2, OLT = 1, SO = +2
The only points that count are those in games that lead to a medal (round robin and playoffs). This does include the bronze medal game. Relegation round or 5th-6th seeding games are NOT included.

    ROSTER
    12 forwards, 6 d-men, 2 goalies + 1 captain (total 21 players)
Only 5 players from any one nation (including all positions and captain) so you can’t load up on one or two nations.

The position of 'Captain' was introduced a few years ago to further enhance the diversity of the picks. So I have selected a few highly regarded players in tournament and you can only pick one (they are not available for the other forwards positions). This year the 5 captain are:
    Jonathan Drouin CAN
    Teuvo Teravinen FIN
    Mikhail Grigorenko RUS
    Elias Lindholm SWE
    Connor McDavid CAN

    PRIZE
Respect and bragging rights. Other participants might give you reputation points or write a song in your honour.

    HOW TO ENTER
In the attached in the next post is a .zip file in which I have put a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. From here you can use the pull-down menus to pick you team. The spreadsheet counts the number of players from each nation. Once you have selected your 21 players save the excel file with your username and email it to me. My email is reeveta at gmail dot com. Please put 'World Junior Pool' in the title so it will be easy to spot in case your email gets caught as spam.

If you don't have Microsoft Excel your other option is to email me with the names (firstname lastname) of you entry in a list. The names must be spelled exactly as found on the roster from the TSN.ca website. This make it possible for me to cut and paste into excel. Be sure to count the number of players you have from each nation.
If you don’t have email and want to PM me please also make sure the full name is spelled correctly. Names I don’t understand may be mistake for depth players on Team Norway.

The deadline is before the drop of the puck for the first game. I am usually forgiving an hour or so.

    CHANGES
Last year a few people wanted to change their entries after they made them but before the deadline. This is not a big deal but it is something I would like to minimize because it is work for me and opens it up for me to make a mistake. The best plan is to wait until closer to the start of the tournament to make your entry. However, if you HAVE to change it I will accept it up until the deadline.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS YEAR THE HOLIDAY SEASON FINDS ME MOVING FROM BC TO ONTARIO, SO I AM NOT READILY AVAILABLE FOR EMAIL RESPONSE. If you have to make assumptions, please do so or try to connect with ‘nights’ on the forum for help.

    NOTES AND DISCLAIMER
I have done the best I can to get the up-to-date rosters but these rosters are pre-cuts for some teams and there may be errors. I take no responsibility for you picking players that don't play.

If player is not on the pull down list but should be, add him in the 'write in' section. There shouldn't be many but if there are I am sorry.

I am posting this December 22 at 5 pm pacific time so it couldn't hurt to check back in a day or two in case someone finds a mistake. Updates will be posted here.

    SPREAD THE WORD
Please feel free to spread the word around the format about this free challenge. I know I often don’t look down here so if it is mentioned in other sections more people may find it.

Sounds great, count me in, Would be an amazing year to go, considering it is Malmo, and across the bridge from Copenhagen. Got pricing for next years WJC in Toronto. Was crazy price. 650$ for worst seats at ACC, and team Canada doesn't play any of there preliminary games in Toronto. Will keep my eye open for when it gets up and running. Thanks

21 emails and PMs with entries. I will put together a total roster sheet tomorrow and hand over to Nights for keeping up with the stats. Good luck everyone.

Fascinating picks. Surprised only 2 of us took Grigorenko. Also, I thought Kostalek would have been picked by more people as well. I can't get too excited and I have been near the start for the first few days a couple times, and nearly always do poorly in this pool!

I like the fact that I'm the only one who took Teravainen. If the Fins upset I have a chance.

Im surprised only that many people. Would think everyone would throw a team out there, to me it certainly makes a Sweden/Germany game a little more exciting.

Surprised I was the only one who took Honka. Thought a few more people would take a chance on the Finnish dman.

So up to date with all the games from today (the 28th).

I make it a habit to update once a day at least until the tournament is over, and since the games are over late in the afternoon, I'll have them done at night.

Fairly simple update since 2 teams washed up some scrub teams with shutouts.

Every one is quiet this year! Usually there is a bit more of the trash talk going on!

Bit of an earlier update because I happened to be in front of my computer with Excel.

Kicking myself bigtime for going with Eichel over Reway... Not that Eichel is bad but I can't believe that the Reway owners aren't dominating this thing! Also, Petan over Mantha was tough but Sutter made me very afraid of Mantha, as I got the impression he was one mistake away from being the 13th forward...

Edit: Oh well at least no one has Reway!

A bit later then usual tonight - was in a zone most of the day.

A heads up that tomorrow there are no games to be played - which makes it nice for me since I have something tomorrow night anyways. Plus, being a Leafs fan and the Winter Classic...

And as mentioned, this is usually where some teams start to snowball. The upcoming USA vs RUS matchup is going to be pivotal for a lot of teams, since only one of them keep gathering points in the medal rounds after that point. Something to watch.

Hey.... I'm in a WJC pool with a few buddies and there's conflicting stats between IIHF and TSN sites. Namely with De La Rose and Djoos. What site are you using? Thx.
