Exclamation Making a move for Malkin...assess my offer

The offer currently sits on the table in my pool. It's a limited keeper league - keep 6. All categories - sog, hits, pim, blocks, point cats.

I have offered Eric Staal, Scott Hartnell and Jason Pominville for Malkin. No cap implications, just a pure hockey trade here. EDIT: seems clear this is not enough to get Malkin. but it's just a first offer. we'll see how he responds.

On one hand I would be getting the best player in the trade, but on the other hand I am giving up a lot of offense and I'm currently in 1st place - it could set me back this playoffs. Nonetheless I feel if you can get Malkin, you have to go for it. I would have a two-headed monster in Stamkos and Malkin for the forseeable future.

Have I offered too little? Too much? Just right? Having trouble guaging this one from an unbiased perspective.

EDIT: READ MY NEW POST BELOW! LOOKING FOR MORE ADVICE

In my opinion this isn't close for Malkin. You need to give up a lot more.

pmorrow136, you need to provide your league and team details to get the right answer here.

However, from what I know, if a trade jeopardizes your championship chances, yet solidifies your future roster, you have to remember that you are in this pool to win it (unless you have other intentions).

It would suck to pass an opportunity to land Malkin, especially for such a low price, but if the move is guaranteed to cost you your current top spot, I would be very hesitant to pull the trigger on it.

Also, since this is a limited keeper, why in the world would the Malkin owner give him up for 1 potential keeper (Staal). Again, I'm just going with my assumptions here as I do not know your format, rosters or number of teams.
Keeper league 14 teams (H2H, 20 active players keep 16 NHLers, 16 minors)
    Scoring Cats: G-A-PTS-PPG-PPA-(+/-)-HITS-BLK-SHP-SOG-FOW-GWG / W-L-SVS-SV%-GAA-SO

W- Forsberg, Batherson, Nichuskin, Tuch, Konecny, Maccelli, Sharangovich, Bertuzzi, Kaliyev, Neighbours, Reichel
    D- Carlson, Rielly, Klingberg

Yeah, it'll take more than that to land Malkin. I tend to stay away from 3-for-1 deals too, because the person receiving the large part of the deal ends up having to cut a few players from his/her team.

Being in a limited keeper pool where you can only retain six players - I'd assume that a one-for-one or two-for-one trade would be needed to get Malkin. Hartnell and Pominville probably wouldn't be keepers, so it would essentially be E.Staal for Malkin which likely isn't a trade anyone would be in on.

If be surprised if he took an offer like that. If I was dealing him is look for two top 30 players in return. Staal is a decent piece ( I like him less than most but he has some name value that IMO outweighs his production). For a second piece is be looking for a Kane/Toews/Getzlaf type. I'd also want a top pick Or two.

I suspect with your cats Hartnell is a valuable price but he isn't a good enough second piece to land malkin.

You mention playoffs so I assume it's a H2H league. Playoffs are a bit of a crapshoot usually so I'd rather take the best player in a deal a full needs in the wire and hope for the best.

I'll turn it over to you guys. I'm still keen to get Malkin. He still hasn't replied to my first offer, but assuming he rejects it I'd like to see what you guys think would get the job done (without totally ruining my team!)

Also - I have all of my draft picks except for one late rounder.

If try to sell him on Staal, Landeskog and a couple picks (1st and 3rd). That gives him two keepers one a solid young Multicat guy and a scoring Center to replace Malkin. Id also add Suter for Garrison if he wanted. Suter is probably in the running for 6th keeper on his team.

As it is right now I would assume your keepers are Stamkos, Hall, Staal, Landeskog, Perry, and Quick. His keepers would likely be Malkin, RNH, Benn, Subban, Fleury and...someone (a lot of similar value guys on his team, nobody really stands out to me). So trading Staal and Landeskog along with a couple picks could be a good starting point. He would lose his best keeper but would also upgrade his last keeper along with a few picks to help next year. If i was him I would still want more for Malkin, probably Hall and/or Perry.

Actually it wasn't a slam dunk that I'd keep Landeskog. I'm considering keeping Mike Smith instead because A. my top 4 forwards are very strong already and B. i don't know how many goalies will be released back into the draft next year - we're only in our first season of the league so im not sure where others are leaning keeper-wise.

Thus, I would definitely part with Landeskog in a package with Eric Staal to try and get Malkin.

I think the fact that he hasn't responded to you at all means he probably isn't interested. I think you're gonna have to try and get a hold of him and see where he is looking. The Landeskog/Staal package isn't bad though.

I put E Staal and Landeskog on the table for Malkin. Just found out he's a Penguins fan so not sure how well this will go...

My best guess is that it will take a keeper to land a keeper. So if you are seriously considering not keeping Landeskog, then I might offer him + Hall. I wouldn't do it for Staal - he hasn't been consistent enough for me to like getting him. To get one of the top 3 players in the league, you will need to overpay especially if the owner is a fan of the team the guy plays for.
In a 10 league where we start 3C, 3LW, 3RW, 4D and 2 G daily. It is a H2H league - we keep 3 players (1 G max), are allowed a max of 2 keeps for each player. The number in brackets is the number of keeps I have left:

G, A, +/-, PIMs, PPG, PPA and Shots.
C - Larkin, Couturier, Kopitar, Cirelli
LW - OV, Panarin (1), Schenn (C), Ehlers (RW), Kreider
RW - Kucherov (0), Seguin (C), Palmieri, Voracek, Yamamoto
    D - Yandle, DeAngelo

    W, GAA, SV% and Saves.
G - Rask, Varlamov, Hart, Mrazek
    IR+ - Tarasenko

In a keep 6 this is not nearly enough. In a keep 14 like my league I would just immediately decline that offer and never bother trading with you again. Try offering Perry, Staal, and a draft pick.
