Default Is Hartnell slowly waking up?

Two goals, 9 shots and 4 PIMs in the last 7 periods (2 1/3 games). Two periods to go in the game vs. Edmonton. Nothing too amazing yet, but maybe he's about to turn the corner...

he has to do something eventually that is for sure

the problem with Hartnell is to temper your expectations

    he isn't the 37/30 guy

you are lucky if he is ever a 25/25 guy again and more likely 20/20 is reasonable given the injury expectations etc

he is old for the game he plays

yes he is only 31 but so is Clowe and look what has happened there

granted Clowe isn't as talented as Hartnell but that style of play these guys play wears a body down early

Point taken, but I don't think anyone in their right mind is expecting another 37/30 season. But if he's on track, he can play like a 50 point, 100+ PIM season guy, which is what I was expecting upon drafting him. At least I see reason that he might be coming out of his crazy-long funk...

I'm not entirely sold yet. The fact that the team has had a historically awful start, and this guy didn't rack up any penalty minutes trying to hit/fight/show some spark for this team is telling.

That said, the top line looked much better, and if Giroux gets it going, he'll likely drag Hartnell along for the ride.

Don't see why he can't score at a 50 point pace if he keeps playing with Giroux on EV1 and PP1. Somebody's gotta score the goals that lead to Giroux's 60 assists. 150 PIM is also a reasonable possibility considering he's been at or near that pace for 6 seasons in a row. He's under-rated if you ask me... gets downgraded like Kunitz does, because he rides the coattails of highly talented teammate(s).

as someone who's drafted him the past 2 years he is NOT under-rated.

he's vastly over-rated - had one mega year with the giroux/jagr line and hasn't been healthy or productive since then

don't expect as many points, but he's barely getting SOG/pims now

I do think he's coming around. People want to get down on him cause they drafted him too early the last couple of years. But his career stats suggest a player that will start producing what what most ppl expect of him.

Hartnell has averaged 25 goals, roughly 200 shots, 15 ppp's and over 125 pims a year dating back 7 years (excluding last years 32 games). This includes 2 seasons with Nashville and a 14 goal season a few years back with Philly. He had a 30/30 season before Grioux even scored 10 career goals. These guys go through ups and downs. Some worse than others. But I bet he is coming around and that top line will start to produce. Their season end stats might not be sexy but their ppg probably will be before too long. I also like that before his most recent injury, Hartnell played 80+ games 6 out of those 7 seasons.

people aren't getting down on him they are facing the facts and the facts are he has been trending down a couple of seasons now

the facts are that at around their early 30s players who play his game tend to break down both their bodies and their games

He's been trending down the last couple of seasons???
    Please check your facts..lol.

Less than 2 seasons ago he was killing it. Do I have to list the over 30 players who still produce. No. Good. There is too many. Especially an iron man type player. I'm no special fan of Hartnell. It is what it is. Don't be a hater.
