My only experience was 2 years ago when Peter Forsberg signed, he appeared on Yahoo at like 7 AM the next day. I set my alarm for 5AM to grab him... he wasn't there.

As long as your league has waivers he will go to waivers, so it's usually not first come first serve.

It depends on your league settings, but Ice Wings is correct. I believe the default is that they will appear in your league on waivers.

Check your league settings to be sure, though.

Why would anyone even bother considering picking this guy up. MacTavish should be fired for this bone head move! He clears 3.5 mil in cap space rather then trade for a goalie that actually plays in the league he blows 3 million on this tool that can't even make a Las Vegas bush league team. If he gets lite up like Dipietro did on Carolinas farm team then what? Your stuck with a 3 million anchor you cant get ride of for the entire year.

in large and deep leagues every goalie is worth picking up if they are going to play an NHL game

holding them is a different story and depends on what they do

but there are plenty of leagues where goalies are very hard to come by and starters can be more valuable than all but the best forwards and in some cases even more than them

and yes as has been stated if your league has waivers they will enter your league following the waiver rules

This is fantasy hockey and not real hockey. Probably not an apples to apples comparison, but Sean Avery once had great value and helped me win a championship, but would I ever have wanted him on my favorite NHL team? Hell no.

    Cool

    ds760,
You have to do a little more research. Bryz made the team, but was only there on a conditioning stint, if he said yes and his goal was to play in the NHL, he would of screwed the team because they have fewer allowable contracts, 22 i believe, Even the coach stated this. Bryz could of played there, and the team wanted him to. But his goal was always to play in the NHL. I think this is a cheap option for Edmonton, does it reek of desperation, Hell Yes, but it is one year. And if he comes in and puts all his bullsh#t aside? It may be a genius move?
Seeing how bad Philly is this year, was it all Bryzs fault? I doubt it? At least he was playing better then .500 hockey for them.
    Just my 2 cents.
    Good Luck

i don't think anyone actually believes that everything was Bryz's fault in Philly last season

but it is also completely naive to pretend that he was a great goalie who was a victim of his teammates

he is a goalie who benefited tremendously from a defensive/goalie friendly system who was exposed as an average at best goalie when left to his own devices

you would see the same results if Mike Smith left Phoenix, we saw Lindback completely fall apart once he left Nashville

remember the Phoenix system made Brian Boucher the holder of the modern day shutout streak

Bryz is perceived as being a much better goalie than he actually is because of having played for Phoenix

unless the defensemen in Edmonton are defensively superior to those in Philadelphia or the system they play a more defensive one any expectations from Bryz shouldn't be any greater than what he was able to do while in Philadelphia

all Russian's are automatically assumed to have fled for the KHL if they aren't signed and are immediately purged

    Lucifer,
I never once said he was a victim of his teammates, and never once said he was a great goalie, I said it is a cheap option for a team screaming for Goalie help. Just wanted to clarify, that it wasn't because he was a horrible goalie that he couldn't make a ECHL team, he didn't sign for other reasons.
Do I hope he does well, hell yeah. It'll justify my craziness in keeping him on my team.
At the end of the day, Edmonton has a ton of other concerns besides goaltending. Just wanted to make sure the facts were right.
Obviously I value your opinion as shown by the rep I have given you in the past.
But that was the point I was trying to get across.
    Have a good one.

Has he actually signed on with Edmonton or was it just a verbal and they need to free up cap space?

sorry i got the impression that you were suggesting that people criticizing him had no right to do so that it was his situation in Philly that was more to blame for his showing last season if that wasn't what you were saying sorry

i didn't take issue with your clarification of his making or not making an ECHL club

what you said regarding Philly seemed to imply that you placed very little blame on Bryz for his play last season and completely ignored that the situation he is moving into in Edmonton is not one that is any better than the one he was in in Philly
