    Default Juri Hudler Value?

So I have Hudler in a points only keeper league, and I am trying to value him for trades. The man is off to a really hot start, and I'm wondering if it will last.

I think talent was never the issue with his previous lackluster seasons, and now that he is getting every opportunity to succeed in Calgary, he is taking full advantage.

I personally think a 65-70 point season is doable.

I've had him on my squad in the past and he has never lived up to the stats of his first stint with the Red Wings. His production as well as Calgary's won't last. Get what you can for him, imo.

Completely agree with above. Keep him if you need his production right now but if you have options, he's a great sell-high right now along with a couple other Flames as well. Reality will set in and CGY should still end the year near the bottom of the league with Buffalo and EDM.

He looks, feels and smells like the perfect sell-high candidate. I would set his likelihood of putting up a solid 82-game effort at about 5%. And even then, his upside is limited to 70. I would go 50 pts as the over under on him, even after this start, and I would bet on the under.

I needed a RW. I wouldn't be surprised at all, if Hudler is close to Semin at the end of the year.

    Put me down for 58-62pts.
It's a hot start... points in all 9 games.
I believe he's the only NHL player to have a point in every one of his team's games this season.

    But let's be realistic too:

    1. He's got 12 points on 6 ESP, 6 PPP. Can the Flames really keep putting up powerplay points? He's currently pacing for 55 PPP. Top NHL players typically get about 30 PPP these days. Guys like Hudler might break out with 25 PPP... but certainly not 55 PPP.

    2. He's got 4 goals on 15 shots. That's 26.7% shooting. 15 shots over 9 games is only about 1.6 shots per game. That's actually not great. If he had 4 goals on 40 shots, I'd be more impressed.

    3. He's got 8 assists... mostly on Sean Monahan goals. Monahan is shooting 28.6%. Not even Stamkos or Ovechkin shoot over 20% consistently... so that will drop back down.

I actually just spent 15min watching all of his points on NHL.com.

    His four goals are:
3 shots from beyond the top of the circle (even Ovechkin doesn't score on these regularly.)
    1 tip
I'll say this... he's got a great snap/slapper from this distance, but it is very hard to pick a corner consistently from that far out and I doubt Hudler's doing it (and if he is, he should be shooting a LOT more).

    His 8 assists are:
    4 second assists
    4 first assists
And several of those assists are on blasts from the point and rebounds.

There's nary a wrist shot goal, no deke goal, no pretty assists to teammates for one-timers.
He doesn't have those high-skill points required to get to 65-70pts.

He'll be back down to earth very, very soon.

That might be the most in-depth anybody ever has written about Jiri Hudler. Well done, Sir.

I can definitely see the 62 points as mentioned above as an attainable total for Hudler.

I would not look into what Hudler did last season considering the death of his father just before the season started, and no training camp. This year Hudler will be given every opportunity to score; top line minutes, top PP minutes etc. and we have no seen what Hudler is capable of outside of his 2nd/3rd line duties in Detroit.

If you are banking on Hudler as a 60-65 point guy then he is definitely worth keeping, but if you are considering him (or poolies you can trade him to) as a 70+ guy then I think you will be disappointed. Calgary just does not have the scoring depth to make that a reality.

I actually really like having a good player on a crap team. He has to prove he can be what he was with those 2 ok seasons. I think 60-65 is totally doable. Bad teams have to score too and will win some games and he is the best player. He is also getting 20+ minutes of ice time per game way up from his Detroit days. I kind of compare him to a decent WR on a bad team in Fantasy Football. Having one of those guys wont hurt you. I own him and as my 4th RW I will just hang onto him. If you can get a big upgrade, of course you do it but he should be a solid, not great, player all year.
