Default Got offered Thornton + for Spezza+

League cats and current roster in my sig below.

It's his Thornton and Chara for my Spezza and Doughty.

I know Thornton is on the decline due to age. Doesn't even get EV1 mins anymore, I think that's Couture's line.
I figure Burns can't keep his pace up as a D-transitioned wing, and Hertl will slow down eventually. That means Thornton will also slow down. Sharks is really hot right now so Thornton is performing his utter best atm.
Chara's time on the PP1 in Boston seems gone, not the sole point-getting D man anymore. Shots isn't as much as they used to be.

Doughty isn't much better as a D option but he has more upside than Chara. Gets better peripherals in BLKS & HITS.
Spezza showed his dominance today after a slow start and will set to go 1+ PPG a season this year like I think he can. I'm high on him.

The only thing making me even consider this trade is that Spezza is a bandaid boy.

    What does Dobber think?
IMO Spezza > Thorn, Doughty > Chara IF Spezza remains healthy

Your love for Spezza has blinded you.

With those cats if Spezza plays a FULL season its close. Could tilt either way.. Personally Chara > Doughty Thornton - Spezza.. Although Thornton looks really good right now, and Spezza doesn't. (Yeah natural hat trick blah blah) Those weren't exactly skilled player goals..

I love Spezza, almost as much as I love his laugh. However I think you're trying to convince yourself it's a bad trade when it isn't..

At the end of the day I'll take Thornton and Chara. One year age isn't a huge factor because as far as I can tell these guys still got gas in the tank.

EDIT: I agree Doughty has tremendous upside, however his 1 point in 8 games isn't an indication we'll see it in the point department this year.

Thornton is Mr. Consistency. You know what you are getting with him in terms of A, PPP. A solid 70ish points possibly 75 if the Sharks manage to roll the whole year.

That being said, I disagree with the poster before. When Spezza is healthy (and thats a huge IF) he will score on a higher clip than Thornton, and his FWs are awesome.

I personally like more dynamic players so I would stay with Spezza, but if you want to ensure you have a good consistent point foundation, I'd trade for Thornton.

I traded away Spezza for Seguin the other day; didnt even think twice about it because I know Spezza is going down for 20 games at some point. Since its a 1-year league I would probably take the Thornton-Chara side and be happy.

Agree with Yardsale in that Thornton is Mr.Consistency.

Also, Doughty is being used for a lot of defensive assignments, so not sure how many points he will manage to rack up for LA. He will likely be in the top 25 by the end of the season, but not top 10 is my guess. Chara can get there.
