The perfect d-man in his prime. See you in the HOF.
Not unexpected, but finally some official word on it

The perfect d-man in his prime. See you in the HOF.
Not the ending you wanted to see for a warrior like Pronger - a truly impactful player.
A real lightning rod of a player, you either loved him or hated him, but you always took notice of him.

I was in the camp of hated him. Sounds like Holmgren just screwed his cap situation.
Dak just won haha
No sympathy here for Pronger. He's one of the dirtiest players to play the game. Karma sucks.
Head to Head League: 1 point for G, 1 point for A. 2 for Goalie win, 3 for SO.
Start 6 guys every week. 3 O, 2 D and 1G. No substitutions once they are in (before the first game starts on Monday).
Protect 3 players every year in keeper.

D: Letang, Doughty, Karlsson, Grzelcyk, Faulk,
G: Bob, Shesterkin, Demko, Kahkonen
Pronger would likely need to put in the retirement papers for Philly not to be able to use LTIR on his contract. And Pronger would then lose his salary so it's not likely to happen. I doubt Holmgren's statement changes anything with regards to how they're able to use LTIR on Pronger.

Not a surprise. Every interview I've read about him makes it sound like he does not have a normal life anymore.
I don't think this impacts the Flyers cap situation at all. Homer speaking his opinion is much different than Pronger officially retiring from the NHL, which will never happen.
I hated Pronger with a passion, but if he ever played for my team I'd probably love him. Sad, quiet end to an impressive career.

as usual Carcillo speaks the truth...Holgrem IS indeed an idiot, but nothing he said here changes anything with regard to salary/cap concerns. Personally I think it's bullshit and they should be on the hook for the whole thing for signing such a ludicrous cap-evasive deal in the first place but whatever, such are the rules
The Hockey News had a two-page spread on Pronger in the last issue. Some highlights:
- If he doesn't retire before his contract is up, he can't get into the Hall of Fame until 2020.
- The only time he's been on the ice since the injury was to have small practices with his kids.
- He had major issues at the beginning of the injury, "when he would stumble around his house in the dark."
- He won't retire because he's due $7 million in salary next season and $4 million the year after. If he did retire, he'd forfeit the money, but the Flyers would still have his cap hit.
- The Flyers are hoping the NHL makes an exception and allows the team to buy out Pronger, but Daly says that won't happen.
The way Pronger explains it, when most people look at the horizon, then move their head, their eyes don't move. His eye, however, is unable to hold its position.
