Default Do you use PDO when evaluating players?

I'm a little curious if the people who respond here use the PDO statistic, or its component statistics, as part of their player evaluations.

Nope, I'm more interested in player roles and ice time for evaluations.

PDO is nice to see who is over-performing but it is a combination of a player's offensive AND defensive luck because it just averages a player's on-ice shooting percentage and on-ice save percentage. I prefer to look at just on-ice save percentage to see which players have been lucky/unlucky. PDO is better used as a team stat, IMO.

You can find those numbers here: http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/rati...t&sortdir=DESC

TOI is king, to be sure, but PDO can put a massive red flag on a player, while also helping to find diamonds in the rough.

i agree. the component stats are more useful when you are taking an in-depth look at a player.

though isn't on-ice shooting percentage a better indicator of offensive luck than on-ice save percentage? on-ice save percentage being more an indicator of luck when it comes to something like +/-?

I don't need to use PDO. If there is a nuggest of information related to PDO, I'll just read it in Dobber's magazine

I'm more interesting in line combinations, PP time, tidbits I pick up reading, Dobber predictions, and the gut feeling I get when watching players play.

Yes, that's correct. Brain fart on my part! I meant to say I prefer to look at on-ice shooting percentage.
