That's the theory thrown around in some parts, Fasth got hurt and gave Hiller the opportunity, but it's hogwash.

Hiller started in the playoffs because he went 13-5-4 post-all star break with 2.14/.920 slits, including 1.95/.926 in March and 1.94/.931 in April, which incidentally is pretty much what Hiller does at the tail end of each season, starts kicking ass in a big way.

by no means am I disagreeing with your assessment (on the contrary, I tend to agree with what you are saying), but my main concern/fear with Hiller is that he is a UFA at the end of the year and Fasth is signed for next year at a pretty hefty salary for a back up goalie.

I could see the team hand the reigns to Fasth, or at the very least go with a 50/50 tandem and then cut Hiller loose at the end of the season if they can't trade him at the deadline.

It won't be because Fasth is better than Hiller, he's not (and they are both the same age), but rather that Hiller is a UFA after this year and they'll want to get something for him. I guess it's possible they trade Fasth and re-sign Hiller instead, but I don't see that happening with Fasth's favorable contract ($2,9M for this year and next) and Gibson waiting in the wings, and the money that Hiller will likely command (likely $5M per).
lol...just re-read the thread and saw this...so we are on the same page here
