Bylsma said Letang will go to Florida; still waiting to see on Matt and James will not go. He is a little bit better but still week to week.

what I hate about this injury is that it happened so early in the season that I haven't had enough time to evaluate the players on my bench to determine which one I should activate for Neal.

My options are Boedker, Bailey, and Wilson.

None are great options, but that's all I've got to choose from, and whichever player I choose will be in my lineup until Neal returns (I can't make another substitution for 5 weeks).

It's probably Boedker. But I don't like any of them.

Agreed, but I'd go Bailey, Wilson, Boedker.. Or hot, warm, cold.

Really not impressed with the "great" Dane right now.. Boo.

not meaning to highjack the thread, but Boedker was probably the obvious choice if I were looking more long-term, but I'm only using this player for 5 weeks (or as soon as Neal returns) and I'd like to go with the "hot" player, as agentzero suggests.

In very limited viewing, Bailey appears to be the hottest of the three, but I sure wish I had more time to evaluate all three players.

    You're probably right.
    I don't know bleacherreport, I don't know baseball and I don't know oblique strain.
I just googled "oblique strain time recovery" and found that info.
Hope Neal will be out "only" 4 weeks and not 8...

If he was gonna be out 4 weeks why wouldn't they put him on LTIR?

Maybe they want to bring him back early, or at least have the option. For a physical guy like Neal that would probably be a mistake. Could also be contract and/or cap implications that aren't immediately obvious, I'm not really sure.

The only reason not to put him on LTIR is if they don't think he is gonna miss 10 games and/or 24 days. After the trade deadline when there is no max roster size I could see it but right now it doesn't make sense not to. Regardless, he is screwing me over and I don't appreciate it.

FWIW, when I pulled my oblique it took about 8 weeks to heal. It wasn't gradual either - it was brutal and then it was fine. For most of the 8 weeks I couldn't even put my socks on. Nasty injury.

When I saw the video on NHL Live of the Pens playing wiffleball on the ice, I was thinking, 'is the coach crazy?'. That's exactly how stupid stupid things happen. He was undervalued in most Yahoo leagues and now he's out for month. Ugh!

That's exactly what I thought. So annoying that it had to happen doing something so ridiculous. Curse you, Bylsma.

Pens have placed James Neal on IR.

The team didn't specify it but it's my understanding Neal goes to LTIR because they recalled Harry Z and there's no cap room for such move without Neal going on LTIR. If Neal went retroactively on LTIR then he'd be out atleast another 10 days.

Neal BTW is on long-term IR retro to Game 1. Means he's out at least six more games, including tonight. #Penguins
