Not happening unless it's a long-term injury. Pens have no cap space so they don't need to put Neal on regular IR to create roster space simply because they can't afford to call up any replacement. Pens only benefit on putting Neal on IR if they put him on LTIR and I hope he won't be out long enough for them to do that. If Neal might be able to return say in a week, Pens are better off keeping him on active roster.

Man that sucks. I didn't realize they had no cap space to play with. That pretty much seals it for me that they won't be putting him on the IR. Bummer.

    Default Wiffle ball...

So I just heard that Neal got an oblique strain while playing wiffle ball with his teammates!! Unlreal, geez! Is 4-6 weeks the typical length of an oblique strain injury? I knew I should have taken Perry or Eberle!

I was just offered Neal and Ryan from another GM. My league is in my signature. He's asking for Kessel in return. Is this something I should contemplate? When healthy, are Neal and Kessel not similar points wise?
Head to Head League: 1 point for G, 1 point for A. 2 for Goalie win, 3 for SO.
Start 6 guys every week. 3 O, 2 D and 1G. No substitutions once they are in (before the first game starts on Monday).
Protect 3 players every year in keeper.
    10 rounds of drafting
F: Crosby, Point, P. Kane, JVR, Kopitar, Rakell, Tarasenko,
D: Letang, Doughty, Karlsson, Grzelcyk, Faulk,

I like that deal if you can withstand Neal missing two months. Do you have an IR spot to stash him and someone you can replace him with? I assume that if this is a 2 for 1 deal, that you would end up with an extra player.

I still think Ryan will have a big year in Ottawa. If Ryan had stormed out of the gate with 5 pts in 2 games, you'd never get this offer, even with Neal injured.
    12 team, H2H, salary cap
    1 pt/G or A, 2 pts/W, 1 pt/OTL, 1 pt/SO

    Forward: B. Point, M. Necas, A. Debrincat, T. Zegras, J. Bratt, L. Raymond
    Defense: J. Morrissey, A. DeAngelo, S. Gostisbehere, D. Doughty
    Goalie: T. Demko, E. Merzlikins
    Bench: M. Rossi, C. Glass, M. Maccelli, M. Dumba, K. Shattenkirk, F. Andersen
Prospects of Note: L. Stankoven, J. Lekkerimaki, D. Yurov, B. Clarke

League has been running continuously since 1997-98

Yea I can hold onto Neal until he's ready to go. I too like Ryan and getting Neal and staying in the game until he's healthy is very possible.

For baseball the typical timetable is 30 days. Players generally feel fine well before that, but there's a pretty big re-injury risk if they come back too soon.

    From bleacherreport.com
    ...
When a player suffers an oblique strain, there is a minimum period of between six and eight weeks required for the injury to heal before a player can even return to baseball activities. Needless to say, an oblique strain is not an injury that any baseball player ever wants to experience.

No offense to Bleacher Report's "journalists" but I'd rather use the advice of MLB trainers. It's a pretty standard 30 days.

"The authors reviewed the incidence of abdominal muscle strains in Major League Baseball between 1991 and 2010 by retrospectively examining the DL. They noted that different terminology was sometimes used to describe the same injury, and therefore the terms intercostal strain, rib-cage/muscle strain, oblique strain, rectus abdominis strain and abdominal muscle strain were all included within the category of abdominal muscle strains. While the authors acknowledged the confusion that could arise out of different names being used to represent the same injury, they found that no matter what the injury was named, the time missed remained essentially the same. On average, pitchers spent 35.4 days on the DL due to abdominal muscle strains"

Some recent examples: David Robertson: 33 days, Matt Thornton: 23 days, Justin Masterson: 23 days, Ian Desmond: 27 days, Luke Scott: 31 days. You get the idea.

OK that's not too bad, so 4 weeks it will likely be then. So he should be back in the last week of this month, or the first week of next month then.
