    Just what I was predicting.

Yeah, so I'll now eat some humble pie. Because I blasted that Kessel trade for years, on the assumption that shy-Phil would not resign.

I still maintain, though, that Burke could have got Kessel for cheaper via an offer sheet. That would have saved a 1st round pick (i.e. Hamilton).

So while I still think Burke substantially overpaid to get Kessel, the deal is now not bad.

Oh you know he will get signed, but I doubt it's with the Leafs. I see them trading him before his contract expires, knowing full well he will be looking for nothing less the 6.5M per, and knowing full well he can go looking for it elsewhere.

    That's what I meant... re-signed. Not at 6.5M.

He's with the top five in scoring with Bozak. Are you saying he would be scoring at a Crosby pace or more with a better center? I agree Bozak isn't top line, but it's not hurting Kessel at all...

crosby pace without injuries is like 500 points per game, no one is coming close to that. crosby with injuries is a fair pace for kessel.

Why? Kessel is younger, less injury prone and the better player.

Crosby the last three years has been on pace for 130+ points per 82 games. He'll never play the full schedule but those numbers are still unique in today's NHL. Kessel never comes close to that.

That's what I'm saying... if Kessel is on a Stamkos/Perry/Ovie pace with Bozak and people complain he doesn't have a 'real' center, I don't really understand how many more points they expect Kessel would throw up if he had a Spezza or a H. Sedin etc... does he really explode into some super elite player then????

He wouldn't explode with another player, it's just sad to see him with play with Tyler Bozak.

It's more to do with the team success actually. They won't amount to much with him as the #1 centre.

Phaneuf will make $8 million on his next contract. He deserves it, not many players like him.

Not a chance in hell bro. Watch him play defense for a few games and I'm sure you'll retract that statement.

Here's just a small sample of his fine work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfZctQ7kBOE

Trust me... that wasn't an isolated incident.

Bozak deserves more credit than most people (especially those on this forum) give him credit for.

Kessel's been borderline top 5 in scoring for the past 2 consecutive seasons... who do you guys think has been passing him those pucks? On top of that, Bozak is versatile and can be used in a number of situations. I don't think $4M for a guy like that is too big a stretch.
