No wash. I think you would be losing out. Kessel is the superior player IMO.
Considering trading Kessel for Backstrom.... I'm not a leafs fan and contract issues could distract Kessel, I believe Caps could be in for a big year Would this be a wash?

To me they are very close. I would go with Backstrom only because he had 100pt season already so the potential is there for him to do it again.

I much prefer Backstrom. I own him and would never consider trading him for Kessel.

That's a very close one.
Given your scoring format I'd give a very slight edge to Backstrom due to the Ovie factor, his previous point ceilings and +/- where he traditionally has outperformed Kessel.
If you need some trees chopped down, Phil "Lumberjack" Kessel is your guy.
But if its fantasy hockey and you have no position specificity I go with Backstrom.
If positions don't matter, I make this trade. I'm really excited for what Backstrom can do this year....the Caps are back to playing offensive hockey, and the Grabovski signing is going to be huge for Backs. No more tough assignments for him, Grabo can take care of those while Backs focuses on scoring.
I expect Backstrom to get back into the 90's this year, and honestly I'm hoping for even more.
