Default E Kane and 2 1st round picks for Yakupov B Schenn

I've been talking trades with a guy, and he threw out something completely different from what we discussed. Points only league, keep 27 players. He's a contender, I'm in full rebuild.

He offered Evander Kane and his 1st round pick in 2013 (7th) and 1st round pick in 2015 in exchange for Brayden Schenn and Yakupov.

My initial thought is Schenn and Kane are fairly equal in value for points only, and I'd prefer to have Kane of those two. Then it's a question of Yakupov vs 2 first round picks.

His 2013 pick is 7th, I also pick in the top 3 (lottery held at draft next weekend) at 10 and at 12. I'm pretty sure he's offering me his 2015 pick instead of 2014 because he wants to tempt me with the added shot at mcdavid, which to me says he thinks he's getting the better end of the deal and wants me to focus on that 2015 pick too much.

So I'm looking for feedback on the deal. Thoughts?

His 2 first round picks are worthless, especially if he's a contender. Kane is the only real asset coming back to you. I like the Yakupov side in the long term.

I'd see how far I could milk this. He wants Yakupov pretty bad...I'm assuming this was probably his initial offer, am I correct?

I could do a quality return or quantity return type of trade here.

A quantity type of trade I might try here would be Evander Kane, Cody Hodgson, Jaden Schwartz and Morgan Rielly for Yakupov plus flip him someone who won't have much value in a points only league like this, such as Girgensons and or Tom Wilson as extra incentive for him to make the trade.

Anyways, given your roster and his roster, the offer he made you isn't really a bad one. I'd strongly consider it but only after you try to milk the situation for more assets.

As an added bonus I simply bolded all the players I could drop without hesitation.

    Anyways, hope this helps.

    Stick with Yakopov and Schenn.

Otherwise, you'll be in your full rebuild the rest of your life.

What was the other deal you were discusisng with him?

I agree with gainerama here. If hes a contender, his 1st round picks are going to be later in the round, and while I wouldn't say they are worthless, they certainly don't hold the value of the players you are giving away.

I would rather own Yakupov and BSchenn.

He essentially wanted to rent space on my roster since I have a lot of garbage players I'm dropping I could go below 27 without much difficulty, he wanted to send me 1 or 2 players prior to our drop date on Tuesday and I'd keep them on my 27 and then after the drop date trade them back to him for additional compensation.

Pass on that. His 2013 first would have needed to be top 2, imo. And with him being a contender, that 1st in '15 will be a low one. Don't make this deal.

Rental players? I think other managers in your league might view that as collusion and cheating.
Sounds like the other GM wants to use your roster as his farm system and to circumvent roster limitations. Either way you look at it, you stand to lose with this deal in the big picture.

I had another offer for Yakupov come in today, 1st round pick in next weeks draft in exchange for Yakupov and my 2nd round pick.

His first round pick will either be 1st or 2nd (lottery held at the draft). His pick would give me a 5/6 chance of having the first 2 picks and getting mackinnnon and drouin (if i agreed to the trade I would try make it contingent on the lottery giving me 1 and 2 with the trade to go ahead at the draft after the lottery)

Part of me likes the idea of having the cornestones of my rebuild be North American players with less future KHL risk. As small as it may be now, who knows what impact Kovalchuk leaving will have on future Russian players decisions.

I won't contend this year or next, so from 2015 onward would you rather have mackinnon and drouin, or yakupov and one of mackinnon or drouin (with drouin being the more likely player to get). And if you prefer Mackinnon would you give up the 12th pick to get him (270 keepers across the league)

If you own the other 1st rd pick that might get a top 2 pick, then I would prefer to keep Yakupov and keep one of Mack or Drouin. No need to get too greedy here.

I agree with this. I'd hang onto Yak unless it's something that you just can't pass up.
