Default drafting for offense or goaltending?

Have 3rd overall pick in my limited keeper (5) 8 team H2H league.
    Daily rosters 2C/LW/RW, 4D, 1 util, 2 goalies.
    Stats are
    - G, A, P, +/-, Pims, PPP, GWG, SOG
    - W, GAA, SV%, SHO

    Notable players available:

    Kopitar
    Zetterberg (c,lw)
    Datsyuk (c,lw)
    Couture (c,lw)
    Marleau (c, lw)

    Kunitz (lw)
    E.Kane (lw)
    Pacioretty (lw)
    Hartnell (lw)
    Lucic (lw)

    Voracek (rw)
    Seguin (c,rw)
    Sharp (c,lw,rw)
    Wheeler (rw)
    Lupul (lw,rw)
    Backes (c,rw)

    Quick
    Niemi
    Crawford
    Howard
    Price
    Luongo

Should I target Quick with my 3rd overall pick? He's a tier 1 goalie while there are a lot of forwards available. 3/8 teams including myself didn't keep ANY goalies; other goalies kept were Rask, Lundqvist, Rinne, Anderson, Fleury, Miller (last 2 by same team for some reason).

Or just load up on offensive players? my traditional strategy b/c of 8 skater categories vs 4 goalie cats, and I consider GAA, and SV% qualitative goalies stats, while W's are quantitative, and SHO fairly random.

Top 5 players to consider drafting (thinking winger eligible guys)? Thanks again will rep for good advice.

Karlsson, Perry, Parise, E.Staal, Getzlaf ... kept the first 4 for higher sog totals ... can trade Getzlaf for Spezza with my buddy ...

last year I was defending champion, but I had to drop guys like MSL, Datsyuk, Spezza (had more depth than elite guys unfortunately) who were all picked first round.

The 2 teams drafting ahead of me - one has Anderson in nets already, while the other team has Rinne (corrected) so good chance Quick is still available to draft.

It's not cut and dry as you've got 8 skater vs only 4 goalie but to me Quick would still be the pick. He's got Elite top 3 in the league abilities and a rock solid team. He'll cement you in the goalie cats and allow you to wait a long time on a number 2 goalie. None of those forwards have game breaker ability. Quick does.

    he's my choice.

    Order of draft pick/goalies kept
    1. Anderson
    2. Rinne
    3. none (my team)
    4. Miller/Fleury
    5. none
    6. none
    7. Lundqvist
    8. Rask

So there is a chance that a couple teams after me might go for goalies 1st round. The forwards I was considering include Kopitar, Zetterberg, Kunitz, E.Kane, Voracek, Couture, but they might not be as far ahead as guys like Sharp, Wheeler, Pacioretty, Lupul, Marleau available in 2nd round etc.

If Quick gets picked before my turn, are the other goalies (Niemi, Howard, Crawford, Luongo) worth drafting, or should I wait until 2nd round?

Unless it's Crosby, Malkin or Stamkos - maybe even Tavares, you're better off taking a goalie first. There are so many quality forwards and few quality tenders, that your team will be sitting real pretty if you nab a goalie first.

Actually I think there is still a tonne of good goaltending you haven't listed here and I would go with offense for at least the first two rounds before I took a goalie.

Since you have 2 solid centers already I don't think Kopitar is the right first pick - give me Zetts I think.

you can't pass up Quick....i would take him and then target Voracek or Kane in the next round...both should get you good points, and Kane will be top 5 in shots on goal

Yah, last year goaltending contributed to my downfall (Quick and Lehtonen) as well as injuries (Karlsson, Enstrom, Hartnell).

The top 2 finalists last year had Lundqvist and Rask (tho they were also loaded at forward with Stamkos/MSL/Moulson and Giroux/Tavares/Neal).

Sorry cdubb, I completely missed your post about draft order and goalies kept - don't know why that happened.

Boy you could really get caught out if you pass on a goalie in the first round - not sure it's worth the risk. Actually all the guys you listed as available are Tier 1 or at the top of Tier 2 so no I wouldn't wait.

If you can later wangle Schneider as a 3rd goalie I don't think you will be unhappy.
