Default I have Smith as keeper right know. Can trade 6th overall for price?

What should I do? Trade 1st rd 6th pick for Price. (Rds 1-4 nonkeepers) Or stick with Smith. I can try and trade Smith for a later round pick. But making trades in my league is tough. Is Price that much of an upgrade over smith? Goalies are worth a lot in my league.

    It depends.

    1. I think Price is a huge upgrade over M.Smith. Price is a bonafide "Tier II" goalie for fantasy hockey. Montreal is consistently going to spend cap money and with their youth they are seemingly a playoff team with a strengthening blueline. Mike Smith is a "Tier III" goalie, IMO. Even with new ownership I do not see Phoenix ever having the income to spend cap dollars and eventually this will hurt their performance. They've overperformed for a few years, and like Nashville, I don't think that's a trend that can continue with some emerging teams in the West.

    2. Trading away a 1st round pick in a partial keeper can be very valuable.
I believe that the first 50%-75% of player on any roster will be kept all year.
For a 16-team roster... that means the first 8-12 guys on your roster will probably be kept all year.

With 6 keepers, it means that a first round pick is player #7.
That's inside your top half of players, which makes it SIGNIFICANT value.

Essentially, your trade partner will have 8 players after the first round.
And you will only have 6 players after the first round.

    Potential scores:
    7.2 Carey Price
    6.1 Mike Smith

But now he'll draft in first round
    6.8 Forward
    6.7 Forward

And you'll draft in later rounds
    5.8 Forward
    5.7 Forward

Essentially it comes down to this:
    i) You strengthen your keepers
ii) You give up any realistic chance of winning a championship this year.

Since your keepers are relatively weak for a 12-team league... this might be a decision you consider making.

    You can also consider this:
*What is available at the #6 overall pick... and does THAT replace any of your keepers?

Ah... so your keepers are actually fairly strong then.
And I'm assuming you've removed the top players since they will go in the first 5 picks.

Well, then no, I would keep Mike Smith and use your #6 raft pick on the best player available.

I would keep Smith there wont be that much of a gap to make up giving up on one of those players
