targeting players in draft +REP

Reached keeper deadline and now I can see what will be available for upcoming draft. A few surprises in non keepers, and a few surprises in how players are ranked.

I have 3rd/14th picks in the first round, 3rd pick (17th) in second round, and 14th (last) pick every round after; looking for some insight into first picks in the first couple of rounds.

I automatically assumed I would be targeting mackinnon/drouin/barkov with my first pick, but the top 24 are ranked as followed:

brouwer (wtf didnt keep hoping I could sneak him back in at a later round)

Mackinnon is 46th, drouin/barkov not even in the top 100.


letang and semin have to be the top two picks right? and backes/ribeiro looks sexy too. The problem is, if I pick any of these guys with my first pick (3rd), theres no way that Mackinnon will last until my second pick (14th) pick.

Drouin/barkov may be buried enough that I could pick up in round two or later.



So what do I do?

first pick (3rd)
Option A: Take Letang if available (lose mackinnon)

Option B: Letang has been taken, so take semin/backes/rebiero.... lose mackinnon

Option C: Letang has been taken, take Mackinnon

Option D: Just take Mackinnon

second pick(14th)
Option A: Pick up Drouin if available, even though hes not ranked top 100

Option B: Pick up Barkov if available, even though hes not ranked top 100

Option C: Hope these two stay buried and make a decision on bap

If you are a contender I'd take Letang with your 1st pick. With your second pick I would take MacKinnon or Drouin or Barkov.

Truthfully, Letang is the only guy from your list that I take with your first pick. And even then, it depends if you're contending. If you're not, you take MacKinnon or Drouin.

Pretty much, take whichever of hose three that are left with your pick.

I'm with the others. Letang is it. If you can get him, shoot for the kids.

I'd go with either of these two lines:

Letang, then Mackinnon, then Drouin

or, if Letang goes:

MacKinnon, Drouin, Krecji

Skip Ribeiro.

Im a bit skeptical about picking drouin up early now. mackinnon, yes, but I feel like theres a risk of drouin getting sent down... would be shxtty to spend a high draft pick on somebody for a few games.
