The Classic: Season 2

For those who don't know, my team is Whole Lotta LaRosie.

I only had the vaguest whiff of a plan going into the draft. For a league like this I prefer to just wing it. Perfect example was taking Kessel. I've been in that particular draft spot (9th) many times and my normal modus operandi is take Eric Staal or a goalie if my other targets are gone. This time I decided to deviate from that, we'll see how it goes.

Looking back afterwards I ended up with the same basic premise as last year, loads of younger players who have the potential to take a step up this year (Huberdeau, Yakupov, Saad, Boedker), a late gamble on a rookie (Barkov), and several wildcards (Stastny, Enstrom, J. Staal, Fasth, Carter). I didn't set out to follow last year's template, but I did, just with different names.

Should be interesting to say the least. I'd say there's a 5-10% chance I look like a mad genius at seasons end, and 90-95% chance I look like an idiot. But then again that's the beauty of strictly for fun leagues like this, following strategies you would never try in a serious league.

My plan was to be the king of auto drafts.

When ranking, I knew that once you get past the top forwards then there isn't much between those in the 50-60 point range, so I wanted to make sure I got some good defensemen first. I expect there will be plenty of decent forwards on FA throughout the season.

D: Subban, Burns, Edler, Boyle, Zidlicky
G: Howard, Hiller, Nabokov

I think my squad is pretty decent - good balance across the board (top forwards and decent depth), solid D and three goalie starters. A bonus, checking the same night tool, these three fit pretty well.
