    Default Backstrom or Hiller

    I have Ward.
Trying to decide between Backstrom and Hiller as my 2nd guy.

    W, SV%, GAA, SV, SO.

My goaltending is bad enough as is so I wanna get this right at least.

Last year Viktor Fasth stole a lot of starts away from Hiller to the point that he almost stole the No1 starter title. When Fasth got hurt, Hiller pretty much took it back but it took an unjury for that to happen...

With that being said, Backstrom might be a safer pick.

I've heard that bandied about, and it's a misconception. Fasth may have been a little banged up but Hiller startedrthe playoffs because he was the clear no 1 guy and was on a torrid stretch in March/April (not surprising, he usually has great 2nd halves of seasons). Fasth was clearly the backup at that point, especially considering the huge gap between them in terms of NHL playoff experience.

Hiller was no 1, he didn't get there because Fasth was injured.

In a keeper league, I'd easily take Hiller over Backstrom even though Backstrom should have a good season. Hiller's younger, less injury prone, and at least Backstrom's equivalent in terms of skill, and the teams are pretty close. In a one year maybe it's closer, but I'd still take Hiller.

    Thanks for the input.

Also, it is a 15 team 10 man keeper.

I also have the option of keeping Voracek over Backstrom or Hiller and going into a thin draft with just Ward.

    Any more thoughts?

    Default tough pick

    2 schools of thought here

1:Backstrom just signed a new 3 yr deal so he's #1 and Harding's health could be an issue meaning more starts than normal for Backstrom.

2:Hiller in the last year of his contract gets traded this year i think as i don't see the Ducks resigning him and Fasth is made #1 with Frederik Anderson as backup to fill in till Gibson is ready in a couple of years.

So Hiller while younger would be a solid option if he is dealt to a good team where he is the clear cut #1 but Backstrom is more of a sure thing.

maybe too much crystal ball here but i own Fasth and Anderson and this is my thinking.

That would definitely be tough not to keep Voracek. Any idea how many goalies will be going back into the draft on a typical year? What pick # do you have?

My thinking is that if you are pretty sure you can re-draft at least one of Hiller, Backstrom or another goalie of equal(ish) value then you hold onto Voracek.

15 teams? How many goalies do you start? If 2, then Hiller or Backstrom are pretty valuable and likely you won't be able to re-draft someone of equal value.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.
