    Default Shoukd I keep 2 goalies in a keep 5 ... REP

    Hey folks,

Details of my pool are in my sig. We are expanding from 13 teams to 14 this season so there will be a supplemental draft before our draft begins in Sep.

Not including my squad and the new GM, here is the list of goalies that are going to be protected:

    Team 1: MAF/Rinne, Team 2: Miller/Niemi, Team 3: Quick/ Hiller,
Team 4: Luongo, Team 5: Lundy, Team 6: Price, Team 7: Backstrom,
Team 8: Howard, Team 9: Crawford/ Reimer, Team 10: Rask,
Team 11: NONE, Team 12: NONE

Here are a few notable free agent forwards that will be available prior to the supplemental draft:

Pacioretty, Backstrom, Mac Kinnon, Drouin, Eriksson, Sedin, Eberle, Couture, Ladd, Wheeler, Voracek, Dupuis, etc.

I currently have Bob and Ward on my roster (was planning on keeping 1) as well as a few good forwards - notably Kopitar. So I'm wondering whether I should keep 2 goalies since the drop-off from losing Kopi is not as big as the drop from losing one of Ward or Bob.

Perry, Staal, Kopitar, Suter, Bob ....or

If I understand this correctly, your goalie cats are 3 against 7 skater cats right?

Based on that alone I would NOT keep 2 goalies in a keep 5 situation.

Seeing as how the other 2 goalie cats are 0.5 pts and wins a full 1pt only solidifies my original thought.

Add to that, Bobrovsky doesn't really have that much of a track record to confirm consistency on a regular basis. Don't get me wrong, I like Bob (check my sig )

Ward will bounce back and the dude, when healthy, is probably as consistent as they get.

Up to you which one you keep but don't keep both.

    Cheers

It is a tough call, although skaters are worth more there are going to be 26 goalies gone in your league. There are not 26 clear cut starters in the league. So if goalies tend to hold some value in your league then it may be worth hanging onto.

Also, when do you draft. If you drop a goalie you may have to pick one back up early on instead of a decent player. If you keep the goalie you can draft that decent player.

The one thing I would look at is how many points does a goalie like Bob get who will play most of the games vs. someone that is splitting starts (elliot/halak) etc? That is the situation you may end up in.

Thanks ritch. The answer on the value of Bob vs a 1a/1b situation is a lot since we can only set our rosters weekly (less guesswork with Bob). Not to mention that we only have 5 rosters spots with no waiver wire so to use a bench spot for a 1b goalie is not desirable.

It's a shame the cats are so heavily weighted in favor of the skaters. But even with that being the case, I'd keep Ward and Bob. Injuries happen, and you don't want to be scrambling for another tender.

I think you keep the goalies then. There are only 3 teams that have 2 starting goalies plus yours. And 16 goalies gone. So those teams will be scrambling for a goalie which leaves players available for you.

If keeping 2 goalies might allow you to pick up MacKinnon, then go for it...!

I would also keep Kopitar ahead of Suter. I am in a similar league (no PIM) and Kopitar ranks 35th while Suter is around the 50 mark.

Dmen like Girardi, Seabrook and Seidenberg are actually more valuable than Suter.

    ^Agree.

    Bob/Ward + Perry/E.Staal/Kopitar
    I'm not keeping Suter.

i keep 2 goalies - i think you can fill in with depth fwds and d-men but in a weekly roster, having to predict which goalie is going to get the most starts is tough. with Bob and Ward, you know they ar the #1 on their teams.
