    Default 7th Overall

    Hey all,
So, I have come to the conclusion that if available at 7th overall, I will be going with Hamilton, wanted to focus on D as I am in desperate need, the only thing helping me is Burns' eligibility.

My question is, if for some reason, he is taken top 6 do I then focus on another D, or take a young forward.

We are a year behind so options for D are (in my preferred list):
    Wiercoich
    Brodin
    Krug
(Unless I am missing a notable rookie that played 1st NHL game last year)

Or, do I count my losses and pickup the next available of this list:
    Yakupov
    Huberdeau
    Tarasenko
    galchenyuk
    Toffoli
    Bennet
    Gallagher

I completely exclude Shultz as he will not be available at 6th, but if for some reason he is, I will take him.

Going with Hamilton depends on the "length of Pool contract".
He's going to be excellent... but young defensemen typically take a LONG time to get there with plenty of bumps along the way.

If your team is competitive, which I'd guess it would be in a 15-team league, I'd be looking to draft offense for NOW. Yakupov, Huberdeau, Schultz should be the top 3 picks. Behind that, Tarasenko & Galchenyuk (Galchenkov, teehee!) should be next in line at 4/5.

Personally, I'd rather snag Bennett or Toffoli at the #7 than going for a defenseman (Hamilton) that might be a few years away. With a league counting just G/A/+-, we might even see Krug outscore Hamilton for the next year.

I just don't think points pools are won with defensemen... unless we are talking about ELITE scoring defensemen, of which there are 1. Possibly 3 (Karlsson... Letang-maybe, Subban-maybe).

    Interesting, thanks for the feedback.

    Firstly, spelling all fixed. Duh.

    I see your points.

As for contract length, I would secure Hamilton for 3 year stints twice before he enters Offersheet.

Maybe I will focus on the Forwards for my 7th and see who is available for the D at my 10th. I however assume, you would suggest I pick 2 of the forwards listed if they were available.

There's just no way I'd pass on one of those top end forwards to select one of the aforementioned defensemen.

    I'd rank the forwards:

Huberdeau, Yakupov, Galchenyuk, Bennett, Tarasenko, Toffoli, Gallagher

If Schultz factors in, I'd rank him after Yakupov but before Galchenyuk.

I am with Pengy, go with the forward because of your pool categories. Good chance Hammy could be there at 10. Probably easier to trade for quality D than to have to wait.
If you want someone to wait on that could be drafted later is Jacob Trouba - Wpg
