    Default Cheap Hits/Blks/PIM options ...

Deep 12-team salary cap league ($89.3mil) using actual salaries. 25-man NHL, 25-man AHL, and 10-man juniors(last 2 draft years) rosters, respectively. So it's a deep league.

Scoring for skaters: G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, SOG, FW, Hits, BLKs

All the "best" options for accumulating Hits/PIMs/BLKs are already owned, including cheap guys in the Brenden Dillon mold. So I'm wondering if you guys could throw out some names of "under the radar" options for picking up these stats.

I overwhelmingly prefer Dmen to fill this role, and actual salaries below $2m are preferred; however, any names that might come to mind would be appreciated. It would be impossible for me to list all the players who are owned, but keep in mind that it's a very deep league, 60 players owned x 12-teams = 720 players owned.

    +rep for quality responses, etc.

    Cheers.

For hits and blocks Michael Stone definitely comes to mind. 800 K for this upcoming season.

Is someone like Jarred Tinordi available?

In 8 games last year he had 14 Hits and 6 blocks with only an avg of about 13 minutes a game, with a salary just over 1 million.

He should see an increase in ice-time this year with the Canadiens and at 6'6 he was drafted to be physical.

Gudas and Stone are owned -- Tinordi is available, but I'm concerned with how much playing time he will actually get this season.

    Thanks

Michael Stone, Radko Gudas, and Mike Weber are 3 guys I'm targeting for this year with those cats. Jared Cowen too but he's not a huge PIM guy at least right now and is assume he's owned in your league.

One forward to keep an eye on is Tommy Wingels. He was on pace for about 250 hits and 60 blocks as a rookie, and his numbers were pretty similar last year.
    20 Team Dynasty (points per) - G (25, 50 for defense) A (25) PIM (3) PPP (15) SHP (25) OTG (15) GWG (25) HTr (50) SOW (75) HIT (1) BLK (2) W (50) SHO (100) OTL (10) GA (-15) SV (2) Use actual NHL salary

All of the above are owned, save for Wingells. Thanks for the response, though.

Pretty much anyone with a "name" is on the radar at this point. Each team (12) rosters 6 Dmen at the NHL Level -- and anywhere from another 6-10 between their AHL and junior rosters -- and with Hits/BLKs/PIMs as categories, most teams in the dynasty leagues roster some "shutdown" types on defense ... so the pickins are pretty slim.

Guys like Emelin and Mcdonagh carry really legit value in this format, especially given their relatively cap-friendly contracts, although the league does operate on actual salary on a year-to-year basis.

Thanks for the responses guys. Keep 'em coming.

OK so you need obscure guys or guys who have yet to play in the NHL really...that's much tougher, I'll letcha know if I think of anything.

How do prospects work in your format? Can you draft/acquire them whenever or are there specific rules for it?

    Steve Oleksy.

Also, you might want to take a chance on Matt Donovan.

Player just needs to be owned (have been drafted) by an NHL team. No age requirements or anything, any player can be assigned to AHL/NHL when signed, and players drafted in the past 2 seasons (12/13) can be added to the junior roster -- 10 player max.

EDIT: Oleksy and Donovan are both owned. Very deep pool.

Great post Hitman, there were definitely some names on there that piqued my interest. There are some available options I should consider to fill the void on the backend.

    Thanks.

Jay Harrison? He doesn't excel in any one category, but he tends to be a useful all round guy in multicat formats.

Gryba? Not sure how much he will get into the lineup this year though.

Mark Fraser is owned I'd imagine, but he was hugely valuable last season.

John Erskine? He's at the high end of your price range though.

Komisarek! He's cheap now. Not sure how much he will play, but he does hit and take stupid penalties.

Ballard...back in the days when he got ice time he used to put up decent hit and block totals. He's cheap now, and possibly worth a shot.

Damon Severson...Dobber seems to think he could make the Devils and play a lot of games this year...and score even. I'm not sure I would be that optimistic, but he is physical enough that he could some day give you a very useful combo of points, bs and hits
