Lack of hits and blocks makes Lucic and Doughty less exciting than they might be in other leagues. Looch will give you PIMs, but Staal is far from terrible in that department, with 54 in a shortened season this year, and 72 in a full season a few years back.

Benn and Huberdeau are both slated to play wing I believe, so aren't you making your centre spot a bit thin if you deal Staal?

Looks like forwards play as F's... not W's and C's.

I would do this deal, but Staal can be good enough that it makes it tight.

Staal is the best player in the deal, but I do like the Lucic side here. Both will be solid contributors to your squad. Not so sure MR is ready to make the big jump just yet. Lucic should be good for 60+ points and DD a solid 40+ points and both contribute well to your pims. I could see Staal hitting 75-80 this year.

Good call. I missed that bit. That definitely makes the deal a little more workable. It may come down to how much of a hurry you are in to win now, as Doughty over Rielly is a nice known quantity.

Nope! Staal is the best player, and I believe MR will be a more productive FANTASY Dman than Doughty in the NOT so distant future. The PIMs are not enough to outweigh the production you could have in the next 2 yrs. MR is about as CAN'T MISS as they come on the prospectend. Turn that down!!

Nope, I wouldn't do that deal at all - the offense on your side is far higher.

As a general rule, I don't really like to make trades for peripherals as they're easier to fill in via the draft and free agency. Eric Staal is by far the best player in this deal, legit PPG upside and has quality scorers to play alongside (Semin, Skinner, JStaal, etc.). The offensive production of Staal almost equals the offensive production of Lucic and Doughty combined, therefore I wouldn't think the downgrade to Lucic justifies the SHORT TERM upgrade to DD from Rielly.

As others have noted, I don't think Rielly is really too far from being a better offensive contributor than DD, and since the downgrade from Staal to Lucic is long-term, you're better off standing pat, IMO.

If you really need some PIMs, and a quality Dman, I would address that via your draft (or make a better trade) and free agency. Shouldn't be too hard to draft a DD-level Dman (offensively) and grab some PIMs off the wire come October.

    Cheers.

without hits there is no reason to make this deal imo. staal is the best in the deal. the defense will be pretty close for points too.

OK, let's not get carried away here guys... Rielly has PROVEN nothing yet. To compare his production to Doughty's makes no sense. You have a promising prospect compared to a very talented (and young) defenseman that has had a cold streak.

The way I see this trade is by looking at it as a points only league; yes I know PIMS are included, but the difference in PIMS between Lucic and E. Staal is about .71 PIMS/game, where Lucic has a 1.48 PIMS/game average over his career vs Staal's .77 (we are talking about 50something PIMS over a full season). Doughty's PIMS are comparable to many D's around the league so I won't use those for argument's sake.

Staal can get 70-90pts over a full season (lets give him an 80pt average)
Lucic can get 50-70pts over a full season (60pt average)
Doughty can get 35-55pts over a full season (45pt average)
I will not speculate on Rielly, but I do think he will be better than a 25pt D within 2-3 years.

That being said, the Staal side would lose out only if Rielly would not be able to score those 25pts in a given year. Getting a 30pt D via free agency or trade in the mean time should not be that difficult... this will help bridge the gap between both sides until Rielly is ripe for the picking.

Therefore, my vote is to keep Staal.

I prefer Lucic/Doughty. (Giving Josi or Kulikov the boot.)

As points go... Eric Staal is an 80pt player, Lucic is maybe 60pts... though could have a good season if Eriksson ends up with Lucic-Krejci (I'd forecast this).

    So... you sacrifice 20pts there.
But 1) I think Lucic's PIM contribution in a G/A/PIM/GWG league is enormous. And Lucic will bring close to as many goals as E.Staal. So it's maybe only a one-category (assists) hit.

    2) Doughty is a big upgrade on Josi/Kulikov (not sure which one I'd boot... probably Josi).

I know E.Staal had a big season... but Lucic's value is VERY close to E.Staal in this 4-cat (w/PIM) format. Doughty breaks this deal open for the Lucic/Doughty side... being a 6D roster allocation.

    Lucic/Doughty for me.
