Last year I finished 3rd and my offseason plan was to go for the championship this year untill schneider, broudeur and Bryz's entire situation changed. I’m scrambling for a starting goalie and in a 20 team league most people only have 1 or 2 goalies.

The only offer I have been given for a goalie are my Zetterberg for Karri Ramo + a little extra. I’m really having a hard time accepting the deal. I feel that it may be time to send either Crosby or Malkin out for a goalie which I feel is the only way I can get a top or mid range goalie.
What do you guys think I should do?

I would be in favor of moving a Cros or Malkin for a top end goalie, because you're not well off in net. Schneider should end up being a good starter but Brodeur and Bryz have minimal value, to be polite.

The one big thing to keep in mind is that shooters are more valuable than G, since they have several more scoring categories. If you're going to trade a top F for a top G, you'd better get a top 5 goalie.

Is it a H2H or roto league? The reason I ask is that in H2H your not that bad off with a NJ duo. Guaranteed 3 starts a week and should have decent ratios. You can also hold off and try to get a better trade in season.

Either way Zetterberg should yield better than an unproven starter on a bad bad team.

If you are trading Crosby or Malkin I'd target Lundqvist and a pick. Maybe Price or Rask plus a top 20 forward or top 5 D.

Ramp is a definite no for me then. Id stick with the NJ duo to start Maybe see what asking price is for a guy like Lehner? Wouldn't give up a Zetterberg for him but worth inquiring.

H2H goaltending is a crapshoot. Better off to build a solid forward core and sneak out victories when your goaltending sucks which become blowouts when they have a good week

I would advise against moving Crosby or Malkin for a goalie. I would need to be offered a top goalie + a top forward to ever start considering that.

H2H you absolutely do NOT send Crosby or Malkin for a goalie. I'd try to acquire an up and coming goaltender like a Lehner, Bishop, Allen, etc. but make sure it's the right price.

I understand that in a 20-team league (with 2G I assume?) starters are a hot commodity, but building a proven forward corps and trying to acquire "value" goaltending options since the stats fluctuate so much on a week-to-week basis.

    Cheers.

But the name value of a Crosby or Malkin should get him a huge package. I'd make some offers asking for a crazy ton for Malkin, like Lundqvist, a very good forward, a good prospect and a first rd pick. Then if you get declined, counter and proceed from there.

If you don't get enough, don't do it but it's surely worth investigating.

I wouldn't touch Ramo as a guy to help you this year. Long term, sure he could have value, but even if he is over-the-top brilliant this year he will still be playing behind an awful team, so he is unlikely to get you great win and GAA numbers, even if he does contribute elsewhere.

9/6 category split is a heavily-weighted league for goalies.
What a terrible league format. Brutal. Bad set-up.

Anyways... in H2H, you need to realize that you can still win a match-up by sweeping the skater categories. Don't downgrade your skaters for a marginal goalie.

Hold the NJ goalies and scout the waiver wires like a hawk all season.
Back-up goalies emerge into starting goalies... about 2-3 per season.
You just have to be quick to grab them.

Yup, this format is crap. However, in a 20 team league, I can't see how you would not be the winner every year with your offense alone.

You have a great starting goalie this year (Schneider/Brodeur tandem) and a potential 2nd one (Ramo). Try to get Joey MacDonald for cheap and you will have another tandem, hence 2 ''starters''.

Your forwards and D's alone should help you win the championship; don't downgrade that part of your roster to attempt to improve your goalie situation (that IMO, is not that bad for a 20-team league).

As Pengwin said, getting a backup that will help you and potentially become a split-G (or even a starter) is the best course of action here.

Guys I would traget in order are:
    * Varlamov if the price tag is good (yes he is a starter, but I think he is the starter with the least value ATM in the NHL, excluding tandem goalies like Lindback)
    - Macdonald
    - Lack
    - Greiss
    - Enroth
    - Hackett
