Default Fantasy Hockey Mailbag: 2013-14 DobberHockey Fantasy Guide Edition

The guide is out in less than a week! Dobber is working really hard to put out our best work yet, and the team of writers have stepped it up with even more unique and insightful content than ever.

It is the dog days of the hockey season right now, but the forums are still as busy as ever.

Anyway - taking questions starting.... now right through next Tuesday evening (the 30th).

    Fire away!

And I will include a few reminders:

    1) No long lists, please. Give me two or three players to choose from.

    2) More context = better. League stats, etc. Making a 2-for-1 trade? What player do you have do drop? That sort of thing.

    3) Include all of the information in your post. If it is in your signature, copy it over. This makes it easier for me to reply.

Short and sweet here. League in signature. Is there any guy on that roster that you would drop in order to pick up Matt Nieto?

Thanks for offering this Jeff. Curious on your thoughts for keepers in light of the off season moves. It should be noted that I acquired an extra 1st & 2nd round pick for the upcoming draft via trades last season. Both 1st rounds should be high picks since both teams laid an egg at the end of the season.

Our league is a limited keeper, in that you can only hold onto players three times.

    League Stats:
G, A, PPP, PIM, SOG, blocked shots and hits
W, GAA, Sv % and SO

    1. Pick four to keep:

    Pavelski
    D. Sedin
    Hartnell
    Backstrom (C)
    Lundqvist
    B. Ryan
    Giroux
    D. Brown
    Couture

    2. What does your crystal ball see for production from the Sedin's under Tortorella?

    3. D. Sedin or P. Kane moving forward with the above stats?

    Thanks again!
    H2H (10 Team): G, A, PIM, PPP, SOG, Hits, Blocked Shots - W, GAA, Sv%, SO

    C: Backstrom, Giroux, Getzlaf, Johnson

D: Weber, Phaneuf, Green, Gudas, Burns

    League stats in signature

Simple: Would you be interested in Brown + Green + 1st rounder (5th overall) (and they both keepers onto your team) if:
    a) you had Seguin
    b) you had Getzlaf
    c) you had Backstrom (the mullet)

    Thanks.

    Thanks for doing this.

I have a expansion keeper team that I started last summer. 11 team league, keep 16 players (with 1 rookie), and top 8F, 5D and 2G count. Because I had to draft from their scrubs, I basically have to build from scratch and cannot compete in the short-term.

Q1: At D, my keepers are Hedman, M. Reilly, Bogosian and two of Rundblad, Erik Johnson, and Dumba. Which two would you keep (thinking at least 3 years until I can compete)?

Q2: I have 1st and 3rd overall picks, and am leaning MacKinnon and Seth Jones. My D are much weaker than my forwards. Thoughts on those two targets (I assume Drouin is gone at 2nd).

    Again, appreciate your time.
    Team 1
    12 teams, pts only. G: 2-W, 3-SO, 1-OTL.
    8F, 5D & 2G count, keep 15 + 2R
    Expansion: 2012

F: Tarasenko, Galchenyuk, Kuznetsov, Lupul, Stepan, Purcell, MacKinnon, Drouin, Barkov, Domi
    D: M. Reilly, Hedman,Ehrhoff, S.Jones, Bogosian
    G: Rask, Bobrovsky, Markstrom

    Team 2
11 teams, pts only (G: see above)
    12F, 6D & 2G count, keep 20
    Expansion: 2013

F: Kuznetsov, Grigorenko, Coyle, Teravainen, J.Stall, Drouin, Tlusty, Nichushkin, Stepan, Gagner, Z.Kassian, Hartnell, Kreider, Parenteau, Tlusty, Hanzal

Personally, I feel it's Hornqvist, but I'd like a second opinion.

Tx as always. Thoughts on Edler this coming season under new coach, new big contract? What do you see for him pts wise the next few seasons.

I may need to trade one of my expensive dmen (Edler/Enstrom/Goligoski) to get a bit of cap relief, and being a Canuck who has put up points in the past, he has fairly high trade value in my league (centered in Vancouver). If he has another bad year that value would drop.

    Default possible seguin trades

    Goals,assists,+/-
    Seguin for Letang?
    Seguin for Neal?

Neither Letang or Neal are ranked higher than Seguin in your Value 50 article so I'm assuming the answer is no but I could use another stud D or RW on my roster...roster is in my signature and I can only keep 10 (at least 2 D and 1G must be kept as well as representation from each FWD position...LW,C,RW)
