Default Black Tape All-Stars vs. White Tape All-Stars

With the Olympic dream teams on our minds, I figured I would assemble two super power teams based on the *color tape they use on their stick blades.

    - *Color tape based on the current color they used in 2012-13.

    - This is for SKATERS ONLY since ALL goalies use white tape.

    - Teams are broken into VETERAN squads and YOUNG/FARM squads for each color. You must vote based on BOTH teams combined (vets/farm).

So, which team do you think is better?

Wow... I can't believe you researched this.
HUGE REP. I've always actually wondered who tapes with what.

Honestly... I don't get the white tape thing.
Never made any sense to me.

I vote Team Black Tape on principle alone.
Also, they have 5 of my 6 elite multi-cat defensemen, so I vote them.

    TEAM BLACK TAPE!

Huge REP from me too. The research is amazing.

That said, tough call to decide.

The Black D is very strong and it's not even close, but the White Forwards have the edge (both Vets and Farm) imo.

Very tough call, indeed, but if I was forced to decide, I will add another vote for the Blacks - it has my favorite player (Sid).

    Cheers.

Haha, thanks fellas. Yeah, I don't get the white tape either - I have used black tape since I was about 5-6 years old and would NEVER use white. So, yeah, I am biased too and voted Team Black Tape. But look at that Team Black defense ... disgusting!!

Was it because it was harder for the goalie to see a shot coming off your stick with black tape? That's the theory I clung to in refusing to use white tape!

I honestly think a hockey player's tape colour and the way he tapes his stick may be the most unchanged habit of any professional athlete from age 6 to the pros. Athletes are always updating their equipment in sports, equipment gets better, stronger, faster, heck hockey sticks have improved light years but hockey tape has not changed one bit since it was introduced. Everytime I hear a player interviewed as to why he tapes his stick the way he does the response is usually "that's how my Dad did it".

I voted black because I used black tape growing up, which clearly makes it better.

I can't believe you managed to find out what tape all of those players use, not to mention separated them based on veteran/young status.

    Bravo.

No, it wasn't anything that complex. I remember reading hockey books when I was a little kid and used to look at all the photos of Bobby Clarke and Bobby Orr with the black tape. In my neighborhood that's what we always used. I also just love the look of the black tape and think white tape on the blade looks corny.

if that's the case then Ovie and Stammer could probably score 80+ goals

Yeah it has zero factual basis but I used it because I always used it . Looking at the list their is absoutely no correlation between tape color and anything logical I can see. It's not skewed based on country, age, position, or any other attribute. Kinda confirms my theory you stick with what you were taught at age 6.
