    Default RNH for Rinne?

I have been offered my RNH for his Rinne.

    Some background on the league:

12 team keeper league (each player max 4 years), protect 12 each season. Draft is an auction. Team in signature. Goalies are very valuable in our league.

Also, I have another offer league: $2 (which is basically nothing) for Mike Smith where by I would keep RNH.

RNH, Rinne and Smith each have 2 years left on their league contracts

I think I'm pretty set up front to allow me to deal RNH to get an elite goalie but here are a few of my thoughts...

Rinne - is he going to be ready for this season given his hip surgery? How good defensively will NSH be this season?

Smith - team plays a defensive style, only had one good season, keep RNH

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers!

If I were you, I would keep RNH and acquire Smith. In that system, Smith can post comparable numbers to Rinne. Also, as you stated, Rinne is coming off of the hip. Hellberg isn't far behind. He poses more of a threat down the road than anyone in Phx's will threaten Smith. Furthermore, at the end of a 2 year contract with either goalie, I'd rather have a young RNH than not.

I would keep RNH. Rinne is great but is Nashville going to score enough for him to win 40 games every year? And a goalies value can become worthless very fast.

I would do both. Trade RNH for Rinne and pick up Smith. You them have 3 bonafide starting goalies in case of injury and at worst a great trade option to a goalie needy team. Id drop Weiss.

I prefer the Smith side for a couple of reasons. As an owner of Mike Smith and Pekka Rinne in my keeper league for the past 2-3 seasons, I honestly don't value them too far apart. Rinne is clearly an elite top5 goaltender, but Mike Smith has the upside to post those type of numbers playing in a perfectly-suited defensive system in Arizona. Tippert's system is geared toward defense and preventing quality scoring chances, so Smith will likely post good ratios, and with some added punch up front (Ribeiro), Arizona could surprise a lot of people -- meaning a solid W total for Smith.

I like Smith because he's a cheap addition, he's more than capable of posting elite goaltender #s, and you get to keep RNH as part of your young corps. Slam dunk for me: Smith.

Thanks for all the great feedback so far!

FYI - I can only protect 2 goalies

What are your chances to resign Rinne in two years?

I´d take the Smith deal then. Rinne is a small upgrade over Smith, but if it´s just for 2 years, he could also have worse numbers in one or even both seasons.

I agree with this 100%. On the surface, in a points only keeper I would take Rinne over RNH in a heartbeat, but with your league's settings, and the Smith deal on the table, hang on to RNH and hope that this is the year that he "arrives".
