1st year is 2-way. Might mean that Florida's looking for a veteran for this year. Or just giving themselves wiggle room if Markstrom struggles.

surprised it is a 2-way deal in the first year...I wouldn't have signed that if I were Markstrom

he needs to live up to his hype this year, this has dragged on too long...I haven't liked him since that ridiculous display at the WJC but as an owner I've been hoping he'd actually grow up and live up to the hype.

He's only 23 years old. He's still young. Give him time.

    Cap hit $1.2 million.

Great deal for the Panthers. Between Markstrom and Clemmensen, they've only invested a total of $2.4 million on their goalies!

Two sides of coin. 1) Cost-effective, 2) you get what you pay for, and it's your most important position

You don't think he's a good goalie Ev?

I mean I know he's no Craig Anderson but he's not exactly Yann Denis either...

the team is finally showing signs of growth, I think the Panthers are smart to give him the chance to play for his contract, he'll still expire as an RFA and they'll have the option with him at that point

He is a great goalie, one of the game's bright prospects. But I don't think it's smart to hand him the reigns just yet. Ease him in with a strong vet, not Scott Clemmensen.

The Panthers are on their way to another bottom dweller finish if they have this goaltending duo and Barkov as their #1 centre.

but what I'm suggesting is that they probably already know that they're a bottom dweller so if they signed a veteran stud they probably aren't making the playoffs so why bother (cept maybe to get to the cap floor?) Seems better to coast along and get Markstrom more and more starts while the young prospects come up

They have to turn the corner soon, or else this new crop of prospects will be stuck in a losing mentality. This is the same mentality Edmonton has had for years. Markstrom has yet to be consistent at the AHL level, so it might hurt his development even more to get shelled every night in the NHL.
