Default Luongo in reflection about his future

According to Renaud Lavoie, Luongo is still unsure about if he'll show up for training camp in September... really expected to leave Vancouver.

The quote was "Roberto Luongo is still looking at his options. We don't know yet if he'll accept to go back to Vancouver. #RDS"

It mentioned nothing of not showing up to camp.

That's what Lavoie just said on RDS...

Edit: you're right about the quote... but it's kind of the same, isn't it?

If he is going to show up, then I hope he will be there mentally as well as physically.

With their long greasy mullets, I figured Luongo & Torts would be clubbing nightly with Alex Trebek.

    No?

    Wee bit offside?

Accept to go back to VAN? There's no 'accept' in the equation... he either goes or h retires, he's under contract

Or he doesn't show up to camp and demands a trade.
That's probably what I would do in Luongo's shoes after getting jerked around for 2 years.

But he's more of a professional than me

I think I read about another alternative a few weeks ago. Basically, if he were to refuse to show up at camp, Vancouver could put him in breach of contract and terminate it. Or something like that. Didn't hear anything else about that afterwards.

Really?! That seems like a cap circumvention loophole no? The Nucks signed the stupid contract themselves, they should be on the hook for it all the way, they shouldn't be able to 'terminate' a contract after treating the player like such shit and putting him in a position where he feels that that's the best option for him and his family

Well, it all hinged on him wanting to terminate it too just to have freedom. He obviously wouldn't get any buyout money or anything. Just back to square one.

But again, I only saw it mentioned in one article and I have no clue on what site it was.

I don't think NHL would allow them just to tear apart that contract. If Luongo doesn't report to camp, Canucks could suspend him and not have to pay his salary anymore. Don't think they could terminate his contract and thus allow Luongo to sign elsewhere. That'd be cap circumvention.

yeah exactly, you can imagine the kinda back room deals that could go down if they allowed that...Gillis could just say 'hey Roberto, you want out and we want you gone so we'll pay you a 10 mil lump sum under the table to just not report so we can nullify the contract'
