How close are you to winning if you take OV now? Could you contend this season, and the next two or three if you had him? If so, then maybe you bite on this.
If you are rebuilding, maybe not. Points only means you're not benefiting from the fact that OV loves to shoot, loves to hit, etc., which are the things that make him godlike in multicat leagues.
That hard-hitting style has to wear him down eventually...think of guys like Wendel Clark, Brenden Morrow, etc. Three years from now, when MacKinnon is really starting to make his presence felt, is OV going to be in decline, as nagging injuries catch up to him? It's a tough call, but I think you need to evaluate it in part based on where your team is now, and whether you want the instant boost, or the long-term benefits.
I would make the trade as well. Ovie is still one of the top scorers in the league.
Unless it's a cap league where owning Ovy is difficult, you go with the proven player. Ovy.
Points-only, Full Keeper Dynasty League
Active roster (no starts, just total points): 12 FW, 6 D, 1 Goalie
Forwards: Kucherov, Barkov, Teravainen, Seguin, Hoffman, Lindholm, Gusev, Horvat, Meier, Perron, Schwartz, Johansen, Pavelski, Buchnevich, Hischier, Granlund, Bracco
Defense: Josi, Dahlin, Letang, Gostisbehere, Ekman-Larsson, Petry, Slavin, Keith, Matheson
Goal: Lehner, Holtby, Varlamov
Farm: Soderstrom, York, Woo, Tracey, Dorofeyev
Ovie has 735 pts in 601 NHL GP, that's a 1.22 ppg or 100 pt-pace over an 82 game season
Nathan McKinnon has 0 pts in 0 NHL GP
do you really need to ask this question?
Mackinnon is 3rd line this year, probably second line for a year or 2 after, so you are looking at Seguin type numbers for the foreseeable future. Unless your rebuilding go with Ovie.

No reason to explain, Ovie all the way.

Exactly what others have already said.. If this is a cap league, then I wouldn't do it.. But if it isn't and you don't lose a guy in a couple of years, then I would definitely trade the pick for Ovie..
