This makes sense to me. They are going to pay Rick anyway, so this way they get a discount on the money that Rick is guaranteed. He isn't going to play for them anyway as he is ALWAYS injured. He's more of a detriment to the team than a help.
Buying him out means they get a discount for buying him out, it means that he doesn't count against the cap, it means that they dont have to wonder if he's going to be able to play or when he'll get hurt next. Fantastic deal for the Isles.
Dipietro should retire after the buyout and collect the paycheck while preserving his quality of life. It must suck spending the majority one's life in rehab.

Man I hope so, it's brutal watching the summer go by as Snow picks up scrap hoping someone has a great year. He's been lucky in a lot of cases but it's time to take the next step. The arena deal is done, the fan base is starting to come back after a fun playoff series against Pit.....it's time.
