Default Garth Snow is runnining out of time....

...to grab a starting goalie for next season. All the best options are either re-signing or have been traded already. There's not much left unless he's willing to pay for Miller. Razor is out there, but can he hold up for 60 games?? Who else, Hiller??

I wonder if the Islanders offered Nino and their 1st (15th) for Schneider, as rumored, did Vancouver turn it down? I'm more of the notion he never tried, but I could be wrong. I like the addition of Clutterbuck but that wasn't the #1 need. And if they used their best bargaining chip, now what?

The Islanders are definitely in need of a starting goalie.. Nabby can still re-sign..

I believe Snow was moving Nino this off-season for whatever the best return was that he could get. I fully believe his main goal was to get a young goalie and that he probably offered Nino and the 15th for both Bernier and Schneider but was turned down in both cases - so the Clutterbuck deal was the route taken. Given how tightly Snow has guarded his prospects over the years, you know something absolutely was off with Nino for them to have soured on him at this young age. It appears other organizations saw the red flags too.

This sums up the cancerous situation nicely:

Nino is not ready mentally to be an NHL player. He's miles away, in fact he is so far away that I am beginning to wonder if he'll ever get there. But he is still young he has time to grow up, the problem is that next season is the last season he can go to the ahl without clearing waivers so he needs to grow up quick. Obviously Snow an Co. didn't feel that he would and moved a bad situation before it potentially got worse and lost whatever leverage he had left. People wanted to dismiss Nino refusing to go to a 4th rookie camp next week to dominate teenagers... as if he is above that. It was likely the last straw, turns out it was. Folks can be in denial all they want and say that wasn't a factor. But knowing how they run this organization fairly well, I know that it had a lot to do with nino getting shipped out on draft weekend before that rookie camp opens and anymore nino questions come up.

wait, the Isles own the rights to Tim Thomas do they not? given this rumor that he wants to play again, doesn't it seem likely the Isles would sign him for a year or two?

I think it would trigger the clause from the trade with Boston where if Thomas plays a game for the Isles they have to send a pick to the Bruins. I don't think he would want to play there anyway.

wasn't that just for last season that the conditional pick was tied to?

I'm not sure, but in any event I think Thomas will opt for a team that doesn't try to circumvent the cap floor.

I'm sure Snow could land Bryz for pennies on the dollar (he's good for that)...but for how long and is worth it?

Bryz doesn't have to worry about long-term deals anymore now that the Flyers set him up with a wonderful pension plan until 2027.

Amen, hey you never know...maybe the guy takes a decent amount for a 1 or 2 year deal hoping to prove he can still play. Then he can land another huge payday.

Poulin is supposed to be the guy they are grooming for the starter role right? I wonder what their confidence level is in him to fill that role? In other words, if they believe he can be that guy and just needs some more 'seasoning' then they're much more likely to after a short term veteran nearing the end of his career.

Who knows...Luongo might still be available.

Emery? A bridge until Poulin earns the #1 spot?

    Arthur Staple ‏@StapeNewsday 36s

#Isles will place Rick DiPietro on waivers tomorrow for purpose of compliance buyout, Newsday has learned.

    @StapeNewsday 2m

Team will use compliance buyout for DiPietro -- $1.5 million owed for next 16 seasons will not count against cap.
