    Default Cory Schneider in play?

Per Darren Dreger- It's getting interesting. 2 sources say Corey Schneider is in play. 1st and a prospect part of asking price. Suspect Oilers in on talks.

I like Schneider, but not sure I'd give up a 1st rounder (7th overall pick) for any goalie on the market right now (Fleury, Miller, Hiller, Luongo, Schneider, etc.).

That said, if I had to rank those goalies, the one I'd rank the highest is Schneider, based on age and contract status.

Gillis better be careful. We've seen that he's not the best when evaluating goalie trade value. I think they should have just bought Luongo out. They are already facing cap recapture penalties upon his retirement.

So looking at 7th overall, rajala (I really don't think oilers trade Kelfbom unless its for a d man), and maybe a roster player like Paajarvi.

Not too bad I'd say. Given that we can then flip Dubnyk for a roster piece.

Maybe Dubnyk for Nielsen in Long Island? Not sure how high on him they are though.

This sounds a bit like fantasy hockey trades to me. But I'd be fine if this happened. Just don't see it happening

I love that he's actually considering it. Keeping Lu wouldn't be the worst decision -- especially if he gets the kinds of assets he's pushing for.

The toughest part will be the PR. It would be a tough sell if Lu has any struggles going forward -- especially if Schneider is solid.

I completely agree with this...heck, even if he does end up moving Luongo and keeping Schneider, this could be a PR headache if Schneider struggles. Teams should learn from this lesson. You shouldn't let goalie controversies linger too long. When that happens, there is way too much pressure from fans and the media and it is almost impossible to make a decision that won't have some sort of repercussions.

They should have taken a page out of Montreal's book. That year where Halak was the star in the playoffs. They knew they wanted Price long term so they moved Halak quickly to avoid controversy.

After the finals where luongo was lit up, they should have done the same. Would have given the nod to luongo and still got a good return for Schneider.

    Oh well. Spilt milk

If nothing else the goalie fiasco goes to show that:

    A) a realistic and clear vision for your team is important for a GM

    B) Gillis might not have one of those

I am glad Gillis is shopping Schneider if it is just to check the value,

I hope Gillis learns something from this fiasco, looks like all the other GMs are making him pay.

Love the rumor that NYI was offering Dipietro straight up. really?

Yeah, seriously. Why not just buy out Lu? What would be the advantage? They'd still be on the hook if Lu retired early from the Isles.

While acquiring Schneider would be nice, the Oilers really need to address much more pressing areas of the roster (defense, the bottom 6, maybe a 2nd line C if Gagner gets traded - which I doubt he will) and using assets to shore up the goaltending is bad asset management unless there is massive roster shakeup on the way.

Super longshot anyways as I can't see the Canucks moving a goaltender to the Oilers.

Seriously. That would be horrible. Facing a guy you dealt all year long? Watching as he won big games for the opposition? I wouldn't wish that on my least favorite team! Er...sorry Leafs fans.

I think Vancouver fans just want to see one of them go, they've held onto Luongo for so long that I don't really think they care who gets dealt.

I'm in the trade Schneider and keep Luongo camp.

Trading Schneider would be the best way to maximize the return for a goaltender. Just makes sense from an asset management standpoint. Give away Luongo for nothing and pay him to not play for your team or trade Schneider for something of value.

Must say though this must not make Schneider + agent happy. Signed to three years with the organization probably with hopes that he would be the #1 and then last year his agent talking to the media about how he's not happy with his playing time...probably not going to be happy that his client is getting shopped now either.
