Default Blum out of Nashville: Destinations and upside?

Poile confirmed NAS is moving on from Blum. He will either get shipped for picks or simply not be tendered, rendering him a UFA.

Which teams would make a play for him? It will be interesting to see if he can fulfill some of his promise on a different squad.

Great fit for EDM. But then again, almost any NHL calibre D would be welcome there.

I'm not sure why they are leaking this info. A guy with his pedigree surely would garner some interest around the league. But letting it be known he won't be qualified squashes his trade value completely.

Hard to believe Nashville got the pick they used on Blum for Timmonen AND Hartnell.

I've wanted Blum in Edmonton for years...I think he'd be a great addition.

I suspect lots of teams would be interested in him. I am completely shocked Nashville isn't qualifying him.

Totally agree re leaking this info, especially right before the draft.

Its one thing to say that he will be available at the draft vs that we essentially are willing to let him go for free.

Apparently Poile has attempted to move him, but there is no market. I just find that really hard to believe when he carries very little risk and high reward for pretty much any team. It's not like he has been buried in the minors either - he was playing second PP right up until the end of the year.

Oh well, great for me. I snagged him off the wire hoping for such a situation. Edmonton makes a whole lot of sense. So do a lot of teams. I can see Detroit, NYI, Ottawa, Philly, Pitt (if Letang goes), Calgary, SJ, NJ, FLA, NYR all finding a spot for Blum.

    Interesting sleeper potential for sure...

Why is that so hard to believe? They were just about to be UFA. All Poile did was hand over the right to negotiate to Philly a little while before they would have hit the market. Pretty good return for two guys that would have left anyway.

Unfortunately we don't know the whole story (which is often the case). Maybe there are off-ice issues with Blum or some other factors that make him unappealing to teams that, on paper at least, could use an offensive dman. Just seems strange, though.

I keep coming back to this, but it boggles my mind. I remember a couple of years ago getting into a heated argument with someone in this forum when I suggested that a Smid for Blum trade would be good for both the Oilers and Preds. The other member, a Preds fan, thought I was nuts. Turns out I was nuts because Smid has become a much more valuable player than Blum, apparently.

He just did not seem to adapt to the style that Trotz wanted him to play. He was weak on the boards and apparently would rather use his stick to poke check vs hammer someone. And his offensive game never really found itself but its not entirely his fault that it didnt.

I think he may really thrive in a new locale

I just got offered Bartley for my Blum in one of my multicat fantrax leagues.

I am going to be honest, I dont know a lot about Bartley.

I have to do some research here but after reading some of these posts I may keep Blum. I acquired him last year in a deal and was high on him turning it around. He appeared to be playing well for Nashville considering their depth on D so I am also surprised they didnt tender him an offer.

    Hold Blum.

I don't know much about Bartley, but at first glance, he has inherited the same crappy position that Blum occupied last year. Behind Weber, Josi, Ellis (maybe) is not a great place for a D to put up numbers - especially in Nashville.

Blum's situation is much more intriguing, and I would take him on any other team over Bartley in Nashville.

I remember that. Smid would have been way too much to give up. The Oil would have really regretted that one I think. I'd love to have Smid on the Flyers.
