    Default The Impressive Patrick Kane

Sure, he might be cocky and immature at times but if you look at his body of work, is it safe to say he's one of the best post-lockout players in the game today?

    His resume:

    - Calder Trophy (2008)
    - All-Star (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012)
    - Olympics, Silver Medal (2010)
    - Stanley Cup (2010)
    - Stanley Cup (2013)
    - Conn Smythe (2013)

In addition, he is one of the most exciting players on the planet, has proved to be a top-end scorer, and has performed huge in the playoffs - GWG in Cup Final in 2010 and Playoff MVP in 2013 while leading the Blackhawks in scoring.

    Thoughts?
    8-GM / WK-H2H
    Forwards: G=2, A=1, PP/SH= +1, GWG= +2, Shootout G=1, HT= +1
    D-Men/Captain: G=3/A=2
    Goalies: W=3, OTL=1, SO= +2, SV= .10

    Start = 13F, 6D, 2G / Keep 44 (3G)
    Captain: Matthews
(F): MacKinnon, Pasta, Marner, Rantanen, Malkin, Barkov, M.Tkachuk, W.Nylander, Pettersson, Gaudreau, Laine, Keller, Miller, B.Tkachuk, Stutzle, DeBrincat, L.Raymond, K.Johnson, Cozens, Quinn, Guenther, Kulich, Cooley
(D): Makar, Dahlin, Q.Hughes, Ekblad, Rielly, Werenski, Letang, Jones, Chychrun,
Seider, Edvinsson, Jiricek, Korchinski, Mintyukov, Ceulemans, Hutson

Agreed. His resume is pretty outstanding for such a young player, same could be said for Jonathan Toews also....

    - World Junior Championship (2006,2007)
    - All-Star (2009, 2011, 2012)
    - Olympics, Gold Medal (2010)
    - Olympics, Best Forward and tournament all-star team honours
    - Stanley Cup (2010)
    - Conn Smythe (2010)
    - Stanley Cup (2013)

He's a douchebag but I can't deny he's one of my favourite players to watch.

Absolutely. But Toews notoriously gets his respect (and rightfully so). Kane, on the other hand, is usually ripped for being a brat or douche bag. But I think the stats, accomplishments and clutch play speak for themselves.

To be fair, in terms of comparing the two, I don't think Kane would have the opportunity to highlight his offensive talent as much as he does if it weren't for Toews doing all the "little things" and getting the toughest match-ups.

If I were choosing between the two, I'd say Toews is definitely the more complete overall player and without a doubt the more important player even though Kaner is more offensively gifted.

True! Kane gets all the bad rep while Toews is the loved one...

I agree with this. I think Toews is one of the best all-around players in the world and he would be towards the very top of my list if I were building a team from scratch today. JT is already among the elite IMO - Kane is just making a strong case to get admission into the group. Dare I suggest Toews / Kane are the best overall duo in the NHL, all things considered? I think I do.

Dunno about the "best" but they're up there for sure with Z/Dats, MSL/Stamkos and Getzlaf/Perry.

I still think Z/Dats in their "prime" were one of the best duos of our era. Those two could do it all.

Yep, all great duos. But, man, you look at the 2 Cups - each with a Conn Smythe - on top of the personal accolades and great stats. Both are still young and haven't even hit their primes yet. 2 Cups in 4 years, post-lockout, is VERY impressive.

I agree the 2 cups at such a young age put them as the best 1/2 in the league imo.

    grammar Nazi
    Noun
(slang, idiomatic) 1. A person who habitually corrects or criticizes the language usage of others, especially in situations where it is unnecessary, e.g. an informal conversation.
Notes: This behavior is almost always found in people with very low I.Q's, whom have a very low sense of self worth. Impotence is also commonly linked to Grammar Nazi's.

My thoughts exactly. Kane has elite skill and because of that he is able to capitalize on many opportunities that come his way. Toews on the other hand generates significantly more opportunities for himself and everyone around him.

I'll play devil's advocate here. Kane to me is a bit of a one-trick pony. His finishing ability is elite, no question... and the same can be said for taking the puck through the neutral zone. But if he's not scoring... would you consider any other parts of his game elite? Above average even?

*This is a shady argument. He's obviously great. Just not sure if he was playoff MVP great. Toews was better, to my eye.
