Default Wild expressing "interest" in Fleury...

Wonder if there's any validity to this one. Possible Pittsburgh connect with Mike Yeo being there???

I thought the Penguins really needed defensemen.

The Pens do need D-men but, its not like they are going to get Subban(just an example) for MAF.. Everyone watched as Vokoun started and MAF was benched in the 2013 playoffs.. Its no secret that MAF is having some major issues right now.. Yes, he deserves a chance, but how many teams are willing to trade a good D-man for a struggling goalie who seems to have lost his confidence??

I think Carcillo's deal is pretty good actually..

The wildcard in Fleury's future is actually Letang. If Pittsburgh trades Kris away and gets a decent replacement at a lower cap hit in return, keeping M.A.F. at his cap hit might not seem so bad.

Sorry, but Fleury alone should carry more value than the likes of Setoguchi and Clutterbuck.

He doesn't after he failed in the playoffs again.

Sure, I hope you're right and Pens could get Coyle, 1st and whatever but in an inflated goalie market for a goalie who's now failed (and that's an understatement) multiple times in a row in the playoffs, I don't see that being possible.

Luongo doesn't carry much value at all because of his contract. Fleury doesn't carry much value because of his playoff failures. $5.75 million for the next two years isn't exactly cheap either.

I lived in that fantasy world too until finally had enough of Fleury this year. He's a good goalie but mentally fragile. No faith in him anymore and I can't see him holding a lot of trade value around the league.

Recent playoff failures perhaps, but the whole team had a hand in those failures too...

Fluery did help the team get to back-to-back SCF, winning a Cup in their 2nd try so he's had some prettydarn good playoff successes as well

And I'm a Flyers fan who detests Fleury and the Pens

I'm not so much on the "Fleury has high value" as much as the "Those players you mentioned are awful. Setoguchi can't play third line because of his style and can't play second because of his talent. Clutterbuck is a 4th line player that plays third in Minnesota because of team talent. A couple second round picks would be more valuable than those two players.

This will probably end the Fleury to Minny talk

Michael Russo ‏@Russostrib 29m Backstrom deal appears close with #mnwild http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/212775051.html

The Wild is close to inking its winningest goalie in franchise history.

Assistant GM Brent Flahr told me on KFAN this morning that talks have been positive lately between Niklas Backstrom and GM Chuck Fletcher and something could be done soon.

I've sent a few emails, and it appears like a deal is as good as done. Backstrom said, "there's always a chance."

    Trust me, it's done.

Backstrom, the Wild's goalie of seven years, won 24 games last year before sustaining a sports hernia before the playoffs. He has won 184 games. Backstrom, 35, wanted term -- at least 3 years. The Wild wanted to make certain it came in less than $4 million -- what he probably would have gotten on the open market.

We will see where it comes in.
