    kopitar. easy choice for me.

frankenberry is a beast. his offence is in the ballpark of the rest of these guys, but his defence is miles above.

    Eric Staal, for me.
    Then Kopitar, Giroux, Backstrom.

All are good leaders, no major knocks on any of them.

Kopitar (really far and away the best of the bunch overall)
    Staal
    Backstrom
Giroux (in a couple years ask me again but as of right now to have him ahead of any of the others is without merit imo)

Definitely Kopitar in my opinion. After Crosby/Toews I don't know if there's a better all-around pivot in the NHL. While he may not have the "super elite" offensive upside many of the other options possess (Backstrom, Giroux, Staal), he does have legit PPG+ upside and has finished close to that milestone a few times. Additionally, Kopitar can literally swallow up opposing team's best players on a consistent basis, utilizing his size/speed/elite hockey IQ to seemingly always be in the proper defensive position.

Bottom line, Kopitar is a straight up beast at both ends of the rink -- easy choice for me.

Kopitar and E.Staal are my two favorites.. If I was to choose one, I would definietly take Kopitar.. He is able to put the puck in the net, set up his teammates, but the deciding factor for me is, his defense it is far and away the best on this list.. Great panalty killer, good on faceoffs, and very smart with the puck.. Has very little flaws in his game..

So it looks like Kopitar is the runaway favorite here yet Giroux is winning in votes. Hmm...

I would really love to here some of the reasoning behind someone picking Giroux. I know he might be more flashy then the others but they have all put up as good if not better numbers then him, 2 have won a cup and 2 are clearly more complete players. Make me think otherwise please.

6 votes for Giroux, yet nobody has explained why they would build their team around the Flyers captain.. Everyone is allowed to have their own opinions, just would love to hear it!!

That's what I'm saying. It would be interesting to hear the reasoning.

This is really really close between them. But I chose Giroux just because it's who I want on the ice if my team needs a big goal in the last minute of a game or in OT in a playoff game.

    Giroux - Kopitar
    Staal
    Backstrom

Really like Backstrom but I have seen him elevate his game in the playoff.

    Eric Staal.

Eric Staal is cut from the same cloth as Sakic, Toews, Lidstrom, and Brodeur. Those guys are not just skilled but have the ability to lead and inspire teams to championships. In real life, when I'm building my team around the player, I don't just take skill level and stats into consideration - leadership and ability to inspire other players, and the subsequent team culture is extremely important.

Giroux lacks the kind of leadership I'd like to build my team around. He's a good player, but I see him as childish and petty (You'd never see Sakic, Toews, Lidstrom, and Brodeur doing stuff like fake-flipping pucks to opposing teams' fans or talking to the media about how you 'don't like' a certain team or their fans. I just don't see those kinds of antics inspiring a group of players). He's still young though so he may develop into a good leader - same goes for Kopitar and Backstrom who I don't think of as leaders when I first think of them.
